I don't know about backstage but

1. HBK made the match wacker by overselling everything

2. Hogan had no business being in the ring, for example his fukking skeleton was so deteriorated that HBK had to damn near sit on the mat while doing the Sharpshooter so as not to snap Hogan's leg off his body

So I say as a fan of both the match was and Hogan should have just retired after that Mania match with cokeboy

A few thoughts from IHY the Great

1) That was a great time to be part of TSC. The board war was fun.
2) Hulk sonned the Kliq on that backstage politics shyt. You can't fukk with that man. Or at least you couldn't back then. fukk your win back, muhfukka. Chris Masters for you.
3) Got the most Summerslam buys since the Attitude Era and hasn't topped that number since.
4) HBK did the overselling thing, but there's no chance Hogan really gave a fukk. Probably didn't notice or even think anything was wrong with it. Probably thought he was bumping great for him.

Keep in mind even with all the overselling he carried Hogan to a good match. I just rewatched that match last year and it was still entertaining and was a battle of the GOATS locker room politicians, trollers, and icons.

Nah I think it added to the match as a kid Hogan could do no wrong but watching as an adult most of Hogan's seem cartoonish anyway. Like kicking out of chair shots but winning with leg drops so HBK's overselling and cartoonish antics added to the lore of a Hogan match
