Coli.
tbh i just remembered that drake ain't the only one taking other people's verses. i know an incident where a very popular ny rapper stole one of my homies verses off of youtube and then used the entire verse on the BET cypher. this was back in 07. i'm not trying to start any shyt but it's probably happening more than you think.
:ohhh: How they find out?

Author is correct...do actors write their own lines? NO...they go off a script. Without writers, Deniro and Pacino would be bums on the street.

:ohhh: How they find out?

My homegirl had a YouTube channel where she would post freestyles over popular beats. She had a swagger like us freestyle and that shyt was crazy. I wasn't watching the BET awards that year but I remember she called me and told me that the nikka took her wholeeeee verse. She's not a liar and she's really good but I still wasn't sure if she was exaggerating. A few days later the clip of the cypher posts and I swear to god this rapper took her whole verse word for word. He changed one bar at the end to fit it for him because he was a guy. The crazy thing was that she was and still is a fan of his so she wasn't even mad she was kind of hype and flattered. She even took the video down. And I guess that's the mentality a lot of these ghost writers have. A lot of them are so star struck and happy that other famous people even like their work enough to use it. They're just satisfied with that and never say anything. But if I told you who this rapper was that stole her whole verse you'd be shocked. Just look at the cypher from 07 and take a guess. I don't want to name names at the moment because it would open another can of worms and distract everyone from the main issue.

As an artist who writes his own stuff and writes for others, I say there is nothing wrong with having Ghostwriters. The main reason I even wanted to do hip-hop is because of Dr. Dre & Puff Daddy and its no secret they did not write their own stuff. However, it was no secret their goal was to make classic songs, which is what they did. So as long as the outcome was classic, they did whatever it took to get there, including bringing in writers. More power to them. The only issue I have with the Drake/Meek situation is even tho I know Drake to be a master writer, it just wasn't made apparent that he reached out to others at any point in his career. It might come off as unnecessary but I put it in the same category of performance enhancement drugs for sports. If you gonna play with them, let everyone know so we can still respect you for your contributions to the game before hand. However, if there is an aura authenticity with your work and even a smudge touches it before you let it be known; your whole career can be called into question.

In every other genre they have singer/songwriter. In hip-hop Rapper usually means both. I guess now we have to separate the two in hip-hop like rapper/songwriter.

Disagree 100%.

Authentcity matters... at least it used to in rap.

Especially a nikka like Drake, who stays trying to front like he had to 'start from the bottom' w/ tough childhood and had to claw his way into the industry.

Like.... :mjlol:you were a teen actor on the #1 teen show in Canada, only dropped 3 mixtape and had a lil wayne co-sign and a team of ghost-writers behind you.

Before this, Drake basically been the #1 rapper since like 2010 and you COULD put his reign up there w/ the greats? after this... nah
