No MicroSoft didn't expect Sony to release as suddenly as it did, simply based on the statement Kaz Hirai made about not going first back and January 2013 and then boom Feb 2013 reveal. They thought they would have a year head start again hence the policies they had.

I don't think nintendo even considered the competition given the wii u's features and specs. They wanted to ride their own wave and it backfired.

I'm actually kinda regretting that I bought a Wii U. I bought that shyt mostly for the Virtual Console feature. They even managed to fukk that up too.

You're giving Microsoft way too much credit here. Dudes acting like Sony is irrelevant and that the price tag saved them. If the PS3 still managed to sell the same as the 360 at the end of the gen despite a bigger price gap and late start, why would you think Xbox one would be outselling the ps4 if they were priced the same?? It was already established that the reason xbox 360 got a great headstart was due to earlier launch and price. If the PS3 launched at the same price and same time as 360, I think this convo would be different.

I don't think Sony could afford to risk pricing their console at 500 or more like they did with the PS3 again...their pockets are hurting...they had to price it that cheap to ensure it sells..

Sony got lucky too for the PS4 doing well in the US of A. Cause console sales in Japan reached the graveyard, including the PS4.

Japanese gamers rather play mobile gaming than play a PS4. If that is any indication of things to come, console gaming is going to have rough in the US in the coming years.

thats something that has worked for nintendo off and on, more on than off. the only bad move to me was not making a clear distinction between the wii and wii U

Wii U has nearly an 18 months deep and I play this console as much as the Dreamcast/ PS2, which was 14 years ago. It has a crazy ass library that no one gives props to, simply because of "its a Nintendo console"

PS4 is selling well, but they have to keep up with that momentum with numerous AAA exclusive games this year. If you look @ the Japan charts, it is bricking as much as the Wii U. Console gaming is dead in Japan, but the US still loves the first person shooters and all that, so they got lucky.

This is real interesting information for me.

Mobile gaming on cell phones and handhelds. They consoles as we know it and want more enjoyable, simplistic gaming. These Cinematic games turn them off because they lack actual imagination and focus too much on the real world and relaism. Japanese games traditionally focus on pushing imaginations and gameplay. Now that is mostly gone from consoles, they moved on to phones.
