Sony wont give a straight answer and last word on Microsoft was your console has to be connected online and used games won't work.

It was good while it lasted but used games are just as damaging to the industry as borrowing games and piracy. In fact probably more so because used game buyers are actually willing to spend money on a game guaranteed. Downloaders might or might not be willing to buy. They were already breaking games up and selling them in portions. You can't even buy a full game unless you wait a year after release for the game of the year version with all the DLC. They're selling season passes and online passes so the only games worth buying used are single player games and now they look to be taking that from us.

On a positive note the Wii U still allows used games and both Nintendo and Sony are making all games available digitally day one so no worries about a game going out of print or becoming rare like paying $150 for Xenoblade on eBay.

you guys are going to really love digitally distributed games. No more paying $54.99 for a "used game"...instead prices will go down VERY quickly. Hopefully somewhat like steam/GMG/Origin/others

you are all going to be like this :blessed: when your pre-loading options kick in.

Console games aren't gonna go on sale as low as Steam games or even like Steam games. Not until they're old as hell. EA is wanting Sony and Microsoft to raise the standard price to $69.99 so they can follow suit.

I dont buy used games so i dont care.

If people decide paying 69.99 is too much for a game then Sony and MS will drop the price. They wont just let them shyts sit on the shelf unsold.

exactly.

i said this in the other thread about ps4 blocking used games.

this is a GOOD thing.

right now, used prices are judged regionally, by your local record store. their only points reference are their own store numbers. so if, for instance, borderlands 2 is selling like hotcakes in your neck of the woods, it will always be 45$ used.

but on a national level, sony will have very clear data on the cost over time data for a game.

it might make more sense for sony to sell that game at 30$, because they know after x amount of months, more people will buy at 30 than at 45$.

No breh...just no. these companies HAVE to make money

This is economics 101. The market will determine the price overall. I can break this down, but I'm tired. I will do so later if nobody wants to break it down

@JohnnyGold already got into it

Problem is the marketplace for consoles will be a monopoly. I'm not convinced.

And used games are not bad for the industry when I used to sell my games back it was usually to buy new games.

I don't think its a good idea and the company that pulls the trigger first on this will regret it.
@winb83 I doubt Sony will do it this gen but they're most likely using Gaikai as a way to prepare themselves for it.

See I don't agree with that because of the huge costs associated with creating these games now. I know you know where I am coming from and feel strange breaking it down, but a company cannot just simply sit there like...NOPE our game is $60 and we don't care if nobody is buying it. ITS $60!

Eventually those numbers will start trickling in after month 1 or 2 and they will be forced to either do a midweek madness or a weekend deal to determine what the market has priced that game at. Do a 25% off sale and see who bites, not even people bite? Then drop the overall price by 20% after the "sale" and continue from there. I think thats how most companies do it on steam anyway. Someone has to do the math with the numbers and say hey...I bet if we drop the price to $40 we will sell x amount more which would maybe double or even triple our profits for the quarter.

You really think a company that just invested millions of dollars can just sit on its ass while a game stops selling? They have to keep that money flowing...especially if its something they are trying to have annualized or make into a trilogy. There will be exceptions to the rule of course (Madden and others), but thats fine because the gamers have determined that those games are worth $60 to them.

It might be a rough start since its a new thing on consoles, but it will eventually balance itself out. It has to if they want to keep making money.

Again, I know its tough since I am bringing up the PC again. But I am willing to put money down that L.A. Noire (which is on a daily deal right now) will drop to $14.99 for the regular edition and $19.99 for the complete package really soon. The market has told rockstar that they won't pay $20 or $30 for L.A. Noire anymore and they are testing to see who bites @ the current price they have it at.

People always say this like the majority of used games that were being sold were the 54.99

FACT: Every game being a standard $60 Is hurting the industry more

I'm willing to bet the average used game sale is around 25-35 dollars

It will be less when it all goes digital :blessed:

I guess, but the industry is acting like they don't know why people buy used games.

It's because they are cheaper

If some of these games were $35 to $40 day one it would be Less used game sales
