My mother knew what she was doing. she introduced me enough to the church to have a basic understanding then let me do my own thing. After seeing what was out there I eventually came back. I think the issue was more or less you cosigning some white man calling blacks Uncle Toms. The fact that the segment of Black People he was calling Uncle Toms just happened to be the group with the biggest influence on the Black Civil Rights movement was the cherry on top.

The black church back then, wasn't about money, large numbers of members or fancy clothes, being seen......it was the only place back ppl could organize safely and discuss how to plan & proceed during those times. How they could better organize, progress etc etc etc

The black church now is not the same, and is more along the lines of the bolded.
