It could, but he takes better care of himself than literally any player in history. I think he's probably just hoping to get through this season and 1-2 more after it in peak form and then whatever happens happens and let him get his 1987 Kareem on as a role player for a good squad while he breaks KAJ's record. With his bball IQ and passing skills and improved shot he could be a decent piece for a contender for as long as he wants to be.
Think about it this way. How much would his athleticism have to decline before he was less athletic than 1991 Magic?
