For me, being called a great on-ball defender means consistent great defense...night in & night out. Yes, Kobe has many possessions where he has locked down an offensive player, even full games over the course of his career, but he's never done it on a consistent, nightly basis where I'd call him a great defender in the same vein as a Jordan or Pippen....or an Artest/Allen. Same with Bron.
I equate "great defenders" with lockdown defenders. That's just my opinion though
Who did MJ consistently lock down night in and night out in the playoffs?
And Bron has consistently played great playoff defense night in and night out.
