Owners rarely grew up fans of the teams they own unless their family was already part of ownership beforehand. Since teams are very rarely sold, you take a piece of the opportunity that arises, you don't wait decades to make a business decision until "your team" becomes available. Derek Jeter owns 4% of the Marlins.
The Nationals apparently have several Black men on their ownership team.
