Half way into my summer associate program at a big firm,

I’ll come back and post my thoughts as a black man in this environment
Speaking as an associate looking for an exit, I would never discourage anyone from doing biglaw because it’s a good way to save some money or pay off debt. But it really is a terrible job and it’s magnified when you’re a minority because the firms are really Jew dominated and you cannot question their dominance at all like you could non Jewish whites. It’s a really bizarre state of affairs

I'd only want to do it to pay off my debt and stack a little bit of capital.

The more I think about it, maybe it's easier to make the jump into government if you can. I want that pension :damn:
The DOJ Honors Program is something I've been looking at (they grabbed a few from my LS last year), as have some Fed clerkships in my state (JAG as well, my issue is it being DoD), it just wipes the stress of debt away, has an entirely reasonable workload (9-5/6 is less than I've worked since I turned 18), and has fantatsic benefits + great exit ops. if you decide to jump ship back to the private sector.

If the NAACP/ACLU were hiring more or if The Legal Aid Society paid more :mjcry:

There are also a few BigLaw firms in my state that Black students are pushed to work in, as long as grades are above median.

Those Jones Day/BakerHostetler hours :mjcry:
I've been in mostly White spaces for a good bit of my life, and I assume professional/heavy-handed business environments are a bit more tolerable than, say, a fraternity-heavy PWI.
I know there are some Black networks that help relieve tension, right breh?

Again these are not “white” spaces, they are Jewish spaces. It is a huge difference and way worse imo

I went to a law school where it’s extemeely easy to get a biglaw offer. My biggest regret is going on autopilot and not looking at alternative legal careers. I was lazy, if you’re still in law school you should look at other options just so you know what else is out there. No doubt the biglaw salary is enticing but Mr. Goldstein will get his money’s worth from You, on a per hour basis it’s not as much as you think especially if you’re in NY or SF

I’m gonna get my third year bonus and then GTFO.

I did my summer and articles at a big law firm (Canada, Bay St)

Opted out of the hire back process, to start my own practice. I had a great experience, met alot of great people who were saddened to see me leave but all the Partners I talked to told me I had balls to go out on my own right after being called

If I was younger, in my mid to late 20s, I wouldve put in at least three years but I'm 34. I have a network, I have corporate experience and I have the game to get my own clients.

NO middleman, no cuts in 2018
