Yes, if you get a scholarship

howard is one of those schools that really should be ranked higher than it is
Ehh depends. Big law firms do pluck kids from there but if you aren’t at the top of your class it isn’t that great of a school. Much better options.

You’re right it depends. The ppl I know there are top of the class and either clerking or at DC/NYC big law.

I do think if you can get a full scholarship it’s a great option

Yup, failed. So embarrassed. Just gotta get up and retake this shyt again next month.

Did you request a breakdown of your scoring? I know Texas allows for it so you can see what got you (essays versus MBE). If you tanked on the essays but did well on the MBE, I think you're allowed to carry your score over to a retake (not 100% sure though).

Either way, shyt happens. What did you do to prep the first time?

Yeah got a breakdown, did fine on the essays but tanked the MBE.

Did Themis the first time around.

Just focusing on MBE this time around, so I have adaptibar and critical pass flashcards and that's it.

If you're doing practice MBE questions, keep track of the ones you miss (keep a list of them and organize by subject). A lot of times you'll find you're missing the same types of questions across multiple practice exams. Master those concepts. I know it sounds easier said than done, but the lessons from the repetitiveness will stick with you.

40 million plan to aid civil rights lawyers

The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund launched a $40 million scholarship program on Monday to support a new generation of civil rights lawyers, dedicated to pursuing racial justice across the South.

With that whopping gift from a single anonymous donor, the fund plans to put 50 students through law schools around the country. In return, they must commit to eight years of racial justice work in the South, starting with a two-year post-graduate fellowship in a civil rights organization.

“The donor came to us,” said Sherrilyn Ifill, president of the Legal Defense and Educational Fund. “The donor very much wanted to support the development of civil rights lawyers in the South. And we have a little bit of experience with that.”

Indeed, the LDF has been backing civil rights lawyers since its founding by Thurgood Marshall in 1940, during an era when Black people rarely had effective legal representation and Black students were turned away from southern universities. It funded the creation of Black and interracial law firms in several southern states in the 1960s and 1970s, and has built a network of lawyers since then.

Reflecting the urgency of these times, the fund has set an application deadline of Feb. 16, giving this fall’s incoming first-year law school students less than a month to make their cases for the opportunity.

The LDF chose Martin Luther King Jr. Day to announce the Marshall-Motley Scholars Program, named for the Supreme Court justice and for Constance Baker Motley, who was an LDF attorney just a few years out of Columbia University Law School when she wrote the initial complaint that led to the court’s Brown v. Board of Education ruling outlawing racial segregation in public schools. She later became the first Black female federal judge.

The New York-based LDF, which has offices in Washington, also announced Monday that it will open a regional office in Atlanta as part of a renewed effort to fulfill the promise of that 1954 ruling.

I haven’t studied for the lsat since 2011, so not 100 on if it’s still the go to study guide, but Powerscore Bibles were definitely the number one choice for me. Especially for the logic games. You should ideally study for the lsat for at least 6 months to a year. The better the score, better the school and scholarship money you get. So best to maximize that to the fullest.

That’s the plan. Start studying at the beginning of next month and take the LSAT around November. Power score is one of the books I’ve looked at copping. Combining that with 7sage and maybe a tutor. I’m good on money. Plan on using my VA Chpt 35 entitlement to pay for that and the rest since I’m 100%

Do what ever you can to get the highest score possible. A high LSAt opens you up to scholarships, better schools, and better opportunities. And as a black man, you will set yourself apart with a high LSAT. I would recommend taking an LSAT prep course OR getting a tutor if you can afford. Having someone keep you accountable can be helpful.

Good luck breh!

The current president of the NAACP LDF , Ms. Ifill, is of Caribbean descent as well.
Her sister was the late journalist Gwenn Ifill

.

Yeah, as you saw me call out the guy in the thread about Sierra Leone the other day.
YTer commentary about the history of Blacks of foreign descent is meant to scapegoat people, and appeals to the uneducated.
It startles me when people who claim to have had formal education buy into notions that are verifiably false.
I imagine that they will be as angry under VP Harris as future MAGAs were under President Obama.

For sure.

Another interesting part of your article is the opening of an office in Atlanta. I'm surprised that hasn't been done sooner.

Somewhat related: does anyone here work in Atlanta? whats the legal market like? I've had it described as very "old boys club" at least in Big Law. But how are salaries, specialties, etc.?
