In all honesty, I doubt 40 did any writing per se. But producer tracks writers credit.

Lyrics were most likely a collab between Alicia, Drake, and Crucial Keys (her longtime collaborator)
A Keys probably just did some instrumental shyt and a few words. Someone said Drake wrote this for or about Nicki Minaj. Not sure

Alicia Keys is a proven writer. Crucial Keys wrote all of her biggest songs and her first 2 albums

Drake may have had a concept, a chorus, or a melody idea. Maybe he wrote the whole song, but I kinda doubt it.

weeknd already said even the songs drake supposedly wrote for female artists were ghostwrote by people from his camp lol

and nothing in this song demonstrates good songwriting abilities. It's a solid 5/10 song from a pure quality angle.

Exactly breh

So Far Gone came out in 2009 and dude had 2(really 3) mixtapes before that one. We KNOW what his pen is like.

Folks seriously think he’s been having ghostwriters and been stealing credit since 2005 :gucci:

When are yall going to get it through your heads(No Diddy) that Drake isn’t a rapper, he’s a method actor playing a role, one he started taking too seriously and finally got knocked back to reality

You have to categorize him with acts like N Sync and Brittney Spears, he’s not from the culture, he was created like a machine

Ya'll can't be serious with these takes. Kanye made a whole album with Jay where he was rapping alongside Jay and the album is self titled Watch The Throne. So yes, Kanye at least thought himself equal to Jay.
Kanye knows he will never be a better rapper than Jay :unimpressed:

If drake took the kanye route and let it be known he has writers ppl wouldn't be so hard on him. The issue is, he went for the greatest rapper ever title knowing he has ppl writing entire verses and songs for him.

He been studying hip hop music his whole life and is fully aware of how unethical it is and still tried to pull a fast one. Think about all the times he hasn't been caught loll we can go all da way back to him freestyling off a phone which was never done before at the time.

So no, i don't know if he wrote this for Alicia keys because he charged Meek the Drake Price for a verse, and had Quentin Miller write it for like 1000 bucks without telling him lolll. He knew that shyt was foul and thats why he was willin to squash it with him.

Future also said him and Drake were rarely if ever in the studio together and everything was sent thru email lol You cant put nothing pass this dude

Ye was claiming he had the best rap verse of all time with 4/5 writers on the verse including Lupe and CyHi

I genuinely don't know why people are suddenly trying to pretend ye wasn't acting like he was the best rapper alive along with best artist.

Ye was never adding asterisks to the shyt like he never did when he still proclaims Drake as an amazing songwriter he wish he had (from his own mouth).

Classic song. Its evident that Drake is a great writer, he ghostwrote a lot of other songs for people over the years.

I think using a ghostwriter himself was part of his attempt to improve the areas where hes lacking - tough guy rapping basically. I think it was a mistake, he should have stuck to the R&B vibes and introspection. He wants to be all things to all people but its not possible. You can't be a popstar and a credible gangster rapper. Maybe somebody like Snoop but he was credible gangster rap before he started experimenting with other genres. His authentic personality comes across on every song.
