Pop music is not where children should be getting their "messages" in the first place..people listen to the radio to be entertained...in the modern era of popular music (60's onward), I'd venture to say that something approaching 90% of all popular songs in radio rotation have been either fairly shallow tracks about relationships (sappy love songs, or ballads, tales of love gone bad, i'm gonna make sweet love to you woman blah blah blah) or dance/party music...I guarantee you any song you have in head as an example of how prevalent "message" music was on the radio in eras previous are cherry picked classics that were as rare as Nas' Daughters...lost in a sea of "baby baby" or "get down and boogie" songs from back in the day

Like here's a list of songs that were popping some random week like 30 years ago

:dwillhuh: :ohhh::snoop: good point but the negative messages are clearly coming across in a more blatant manner in today's music

I remember Kanye had a slew of them several years back( Jesus Walks, All Falls Down, Talib's Get By, DP's This Way, etc.), but when you think about it, positive songs are just as gimmicky as 'negative' ones.

The best songs are the ones you find your own meaning in, unfortunately those typically don't fit into the format of radio.

true but not EVERY RAPPER.. on EVERy song...

rappers aernt "artist" anymore they dont write hooks and cant complete a "hit" song without a rnb ft... there simply rappers... filling up space till the rnb hook comes in

can you name 5 songs in the last 5yrs that have benn hip-hop songs that have reached the top 10 without a RNb ft?

only ones i can think of

the last major song with a message as far as I can remember ON THE RADIO ..there have been a few more mixed in there....but as you can see, a bunch of hip hop heads can barely think of any :snoop:

Nas - "I Know I Can"

which is sad.....almost 10 year ago.......

True but I really can't think of a time outside of the Lil' Jon Era where there were more rap songs that made into the Top 10 Billboard without an R&B Hook...

In the last couple years though, Top 10...

It's always been tough to crack Billboard without a "Mass Appealing" Single... Lupe had to learn that the hard way. But I see what you're saying... I just don't think it'll ever happen because it's never been like that outside of when Crunk Music was blowing up...

Coles Nobody's perfect and Lost Ones, Nas's Daughters, Wale Ambition and more.

But there are only so many "messages", most of them are corny, leave that shyt to the politicians cause most of these "message" rappers ain't really that "enlightened" or smart.

Stories and narrating real shyt is often >>> messages.
