Stop making excuses for him

He threw it straight to the opposing team:comeon:

Mudiay was on the verge of committing a five seconds violation and nobody was open. Zero timeouts remaining. Can blame Fiz for drawing up a poor play and Kanter for not setting solid screens and failing to flash to the ball as the last option. Didn't see the Dotson slip screen at first glance either, because it was so poorly exxecuted. :manny:

Little bit of good vibes for your Friday, this is what I like to see out of THJ and Lee...just being good leaders and showing love to the rookie.

On another note, the search for a way to balance our defensive guys and offensive guys continues (referenced it in my last recap)

Some points on these numbers. There's no way we can point to the data on that five man unit and make any declarative statements because the sample is small and I'd expect those numbers to improve somewhat. But the eye test ought has been telling us that the starting five only has one consistent positive impact defender. I'd prefer to keep the youth together as much as possible but figuring out a way to inject a bit more defense into the starters really should be a plan if we want more floor balance for a full 48 minutes. That said, I'm guessing that Fiz wants to keep Frank/Dot paired up because their numbers are a legit sample and really strong. But if you want to add defense to the starters it's Frank and Dot who seem like the obvious options while Mudiay and THJ are struggling recently. So Fiz has a catch-22 on his hands and I'm not sure the best solution.

Getting into the weeds on it...
THJ's at 35 mpg, 20 ppg, 36% from the field for the last 14 games OR if you go from his DNP for a back injury that looked bad; 18 games 34 mpg, 20 ppg, 37%. He's really improved as a leader; I still see room for improvement but that's the point of this season, to learn and grow in that role. He's also absolutely been the guy (along with Kanter) that we throw the ball to when nothing's working and ask to get us out of it. I don't think we'll see him come off the bench any time soon is what I'm saying, but you can trim 35 mpg to 27-30 mpg without changing the starters. Just make THJ the first man off the floor and Dot the first man on (you eat what you kill and Dot has earned that). Dotson comes in early and immediately gives the starters some additional defensive intensity, but still gets some time with the second unit youth crew. You also bring Tim back in earlier and let him rock with a unit that has had dry spells where they just can't score, something THJ can help. It's a band-aid and I don't think it resolves the defensive woes but it helps some and I think it'd benefit Hardaway too.
