So...
What are y'all thoughts on Tim "bad contract" Hardaway
Timmy's really gotten good as the pick and roll ball handler. I'm picturing him hitting the double screen with Mitch rolling to the rack and KP fading to the Vonleh spots...that's gonna be a nightmare to defend. Plus, what I mentioned in my recap is something that's starting to trend which is he's making "leader" type plays. A couple of games back, that was looking for Knox early on and then last night it was stepping up his defense late, grabbing a key rebound when we only had one big man out there and feeding Trey Burke during his hot fourth quarter run. That's the development he's got left, just smarter decision making that I think comes down to trusting his teammates...it's great to see! Still not thrilled with his overall defense though, I think he can be better there.
some other ish that I didn't fit into the recap last night:
- I really wanna see Knox get the ball in motion. It's feeling like he plays reactive basketball (aka rookie style before things slow down) often but getting him the ball with some momentum ought to unlock the instincts more easily. You can see it when he grabs an offensive board or gets a step on the first man, he can make faster decisions but it's gonna take time.
- The game changes if Vonleh hits his free throws. That's how close these guys were to a W against the best in the West currently. I'm curious to see what closing one of these games out against a high level squad will do for the psyche of everybody. They really do tighten up late but it's getting looser and I'm wondering if they can form a "chip on my shoulder" mentality...won't mean much more in the wins column but it could really help them stay right there instead of close games becoming double digit L's.
- And last bit on Tim...he's been pretty automatic on catch and shoots from the drive and kick. As a second or even dropping to third option, the catch and shoot opportunities ought to get a bump and I have a feeling his efficiency will follow suit.
