What can I say that hasn't been said about Knox? Dude has every tool that a primary scoring option needs to be successful and it's been talked about by everyone from press to Knicks twitter to forums. The exciting thing though is that he's smooth but with a lot that can be built upon. Finishing at the rim, the streaky jumper, TO's coming from being aggressive...that stuff is far from a finished product but you can tell he's already comfortable attempting it all. He will improve in these areas, point blank. So you've got a dude dropping 29 points with a gang of room for improvement on top of his shockingly versatile game for an 18 year old. Also...the rebounding has been under the radar, but I like what I've seen there.
Mitch is gonna get himself into foul trouble for a while. But it's because he wants to get his hands on EVERYTHING. Sprinting across the court to block an open man's three pointer was bonkers and not the only jumper he blocked in space. He denied pick and roll bounce passes yesterday too. With no PG in sight, he produced on effort alone. I can't tell yall how excited I am to see him develop technique and feel for the game because he's got a special motor and athleticism.
Trier has nba skills but no damned feel. The offensive flow is a mess with him out there unless we're getting stops and fast breaks. He does know how to score and he can find people when he sets his mind on it. I'd like to see them turn him into a G-league project and not sniff the NBA until he understands how to find his rhythm without disrupting everyone else's...and I mean that as a compliment in case this sounds harsh. The tools to be productive are there.
Dotson had such a promising first game and has laid an egg twice since. He's always been more role player than anything but Vegas is where he should be able to take on more responsibility and watching him shrink from that is frustrating. That said, I want to see him play with full NBA units and real chemistry rather than on the G-League proving grounds; where every man wants to shoot as much as possible.
Williams looked more chaotic without a PG in sight but still made some astounding plays and looked like his game was on fast forward while everyone else was at regular speed. He needs all of Lance Thomas' minutes.
Frank somehow looked good off a DNP. Watching the lack of offensive flow for chunks of game was a real reminder that for what he lacks in aggression, Frank always gets the ball in motion and that helps everyone else.
Other than that, I just wanna say how much I think Knox and KP will compliment each other. Both can space the floor and drive by a big from the arc if the lane is there. Both guys are a little shaky handling and finishing, but they make up for it by drawing a gang of fouls. KP's rim protection will help Knox be aggressive on his man too. It's not crazy to think they can develop into the franchise cornerstones where chasing stars is a luxury rather than necessity. The fact that we're well positioned to pick top 5 next season makes it a lot easier to be patient for when KP finally joins this young core. We've got something brewing fam!
