I get why the Knicks are holding off on embracing a take bad contracts for assets strategy, but if KD/Kawhi go elsewhere as reported then I'd really like them to do that instead of reaching and overpaying players.

Frank vs Mudiay was about asset management. If the Knicks pumped Mudiay's value and at the deadline got back even a second round pick for him, than cool...well done. But Mudiay's rights are rescinded and I'd bet that even the biggest Frank haters would be frustrated if we brought him back for any kind of meaningful contract. So all those minutes and development were for nothing. Might as well TRY to get Frank right instead, then even if you're still this down on him at the end of the season you'd be able to get something for him. We were tanking anyway. Better or worse, developing Frank and giving him more minutes was better for the long term prospects of the team. Mudiay's development was worthless.

And dude brought up Hernangomez which was the exact same type of situation. What did we get for Enes Kanter? He complained, made the team look back and was trash. Nothing positive came from prioritizing him over the kid that just made all-rookie second team and was signed for next to nothing over three years. We lucked out getting those second rounders for him, but an all-rookie team sophomore ought to be worth more imo. We devalued him and sold low. Just like we're trying to do with Frank. And we have nothing to show for the two players we prioritized instead.

I don’t think there is a conspiracy to fukk over Frank because he is Phil’s pick.

I do think they mismanaged his early development by having him focus on being a PG. They had two better SG’s on the roster in Lee and Timmy when he was drafted. So they tried to give him playing time at PG instead. Literally until the trade of those two they were trying to force him at any other spot because they had too much of a glut at SG to justify him on the floor.

It’s frustrating too because Phil drafted Frank and then Mills paid Timmy like an a$$hole. For a long time it did look like the team was trying to prove Timmy had potential to be more than a 6th man level scorer. Hindsight is 20/20 but the Timmy signing really fukked up a lot of shyt.
