I think the trades are designed to lessen the blow if he leaves. They wont be completely trash and burdened by overpaid old players if hes gone now

To be honest this move actually works for both teams. Clarkson are Nance actually fit needs for the Cavs and Magic Johnson is a genius he actually cut 3 years out the rebuilding process for the Lakers.
