All black people are brown. Some dark brown, some light brown. “Brown skinned” is just a nicer way of saying dark but not too dark
Nicer according to whom? To normal people it's purely descriptive i mean with this logic it was pointless for Lakeith to even mention him being 'dark' (we technically all are) if were all varying shades of brown anyway.

YALL NEED TO STOP
RUNNING WITH WORDS THAT YALL SEEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA WHEN YOU DONT
KNOW WHAT IT MEANS.

YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE
CAN TELL THOSE LIGHT SKINNED WOMEN
ARE BLACK SO THEYRE NOT AMBIGUOUS.

JUST SAY YOU WANTED A DARK SKINNED LEAD.

THIS IS AN AMBIGUOUS BLACK WOMAN.

I don’t use traditional social media.

Unambiguous means that a person clearly has two parents of the same race. I don’t even know what other actresses that you’re referring to, as a comparison, because I didn’t mention or allude to any actresses outside of Issa in the post that you quoted.

You literally just wanted to start a fight over semantics. Stop it.

Issa Rae is in it ... she had several code violations

The only reason why I don’t want to see this movie. Issa and her antics over the years are cringe worthy. Wrote a book telling Black women to date Asian men. I fukk with Lakeith though. Breh is a good actor.

Saw it last night w/the misses....it was cool, just moved kinda slow

but we saw dark on dark love all the time in the 80's and 90's, literally everywhere.

the discussion needs to be why, how, and when that went away and why there's a need to have it back in the first place

I'm not pushing a conspiracy theory here but there may be some context (besides sales, trends etc.). I clearly remember in the late 90s and early 2000s, many groups (NAACP amongst them) raised an "alarm" about the declining integration in entertainment. In particular after some integration of casts in the 70s and early 80s, shows had gone all White and all Black. Movies as well. There was also a backlash against "hood dramas" which were seen too narrow a description of the Black experience (though there was a point here).

Amongst Blacks keen for integration and some Whites as well, all Black shows/casts like Martin, Fresh Prince, Set it Off Love & Basketball, etc. were not progress but re-segregation of media. Also as hip hop became bigger and more monetized they began trying to appeal to a "broader" audience.

Granted a lot of us remember this as a golden age for Black shows, movies, music videos, etc.but it seems that integration oriented viewing began gaining more traction in the 2000s and 2010s, not just against Black viewers but to get a bigger (White) audience. The sale of BET and the decline of R&B obviously didn't help this much.

Glad to see the pendelum swinging back some.

there's a difference between a sex object and a sex symbol. sex objects we good. but we need majority featured female sex symbols badly

Nicer to people who don’t want to be called dark. We are all varying shades of brown that’s a fact. The brown paper bag test was binary. Pass or fail
