You definitely right, but this is what artists do, all of them from big to small... thats kinda the cliche analysis of the whole 'creative' persona. As far as lady gaga her sh!t is so far out there that I dont think anyone even her core fanbase thinks it is 'real' she is more like a performance artists with costumes. I think the problem is she has to bring it down a notch to where people think she is really nuts and not just a costume designer.
I think shes lost her appeal as a nymphomaniac so now her walking around looking basically like a cheap exotic dancer isnt going over well with her fans. I think this current incarnation of herself is her least creative from a visual standpoint. I dont listen to her music but im assuming if its not selling that its trash to.

Yeah...she needs to change up her gimmick. Reinvent herself. Thats how Madonna stayed relevant for so long.

I dont think the Pop genre's customer loyalty exists as strong as it did during Madonna's reign....And its like that for more than one genre....

I do think in order to pro-long her career she would have to gradually re-invent herself..

But how long of a leash will she get?

Her "fan base" is a fickle trend following crowd, that either grew out of liking shtty pop music, or moved on to someone "cooler" and more relevant. To the latter, Gaga is the sht their older sister liked, and they want something new.

It's a combination of a couple of things.

First and foremost..."Applause" was a really bad choice as a first single. I personally like the song....but's it's terrible for what she is trying to accomplish. Really weird hook that is difficult to sing along to. Topic doesn't really relate to anything that normal people care about. It's basically another Judas (Another song and video I really dig). She's overthinking and feeling herself too much.

Second of all...she seems like she's stayed in that Electronic Dance Music lane....that EDM shyt has low-key kinda passed by. The "popular sound" right now is that soft-rock/singey-songwritey shyt. "Call Me Maybe", Lorde, etc. Katy Perry hit the nose on the head with ROAR. It's cliched to say, but EDM is "sooo 2010".

25 isnt high. I know they spent a ton of cash for the IHeartRadio music release party / stream / commercials for the album tomorrow. Not to mention all the shelling they've done across the country.

the problem is when she was actually poppin, too much emphasis was put on her crazy antics. it was never about the music. people bought into her as a character. it was shocking ... people would watch on some "what is she gonna do next?" type shyt..

that's pretty much worn off, and I guess her music wasn't enough to keep people interested. Interscope has this problem all the time. Look at 50... Not saying 50 isn't dope or anything like that, but lets be real... people bought into 50's persona initially, not his music. Albeit he was making good music, but his "music" isn't what landed him his own film, made him a megastar, etc. it was his persona. The dude came into the Hip Hop straight bullying people, and he had a story and look that backed him. It was new and fresh. 50 could diss the entire industry right now and people wouldn't care, but in 2005.. that shyt was turning heads

All them extras simply ain't enough to keep people interested in your music. Kanye is character, and a huge diva... but its still about the music with Kanye. Whether you think it's amazing, garbage, etc. It's never been about anything else.

rap numbers looking good compared to some of the biggest pop stars.

Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Beyonce latest first week numbers were like 200 - 350K

Drake, Jay-z, Eminem latest albums doubled those numbers.

Damn if i know. But i do know she needs to settle down on the dramatic stuff. It was cool when if first started, but now its just overwhelming.

"Do what u want" is a pretty good song, but when she performs that shyt, its too over the top. Her and R Kelly literally embarrassed themselves on SNL. shyt was uncomfortable to watch.

Interscope is gonna drop her
Naw... they dont really want a drop an artist that owes them a sh!t ton of money who has even a limited potential to be big somewhere else... she may never get another release date but they wont just drop her right away i dont think...

The whole thing seems a little fishy though, for a pop act selling 250K isnt that bad, even though its a disappointment a straight pop artist isnt locked into the 'first week must sell 80% of what the album will ever sell' curve, plenty of pop acts start with a similar first week and then end up at 3 or 4 mill...

would be interesting to see a complete about face marketing from the flop angle here....
