Kwame came to the Wizards where it wasn't the most ideal place to cultivate young talent.

MJ is the GOAT. :hubie:

Jordan going from GM to player was awkward and created problems over time for the franchise.

Even with all of that, Kwame just wasn't a mentally tough guy.

That wasn't going to work with MJ and Doug Collins. He was going to crumble under those two.

If you aren't competitively tough, and your ability is suspect, you aren't going to do much in the league.

Big guys with limited skills tend to bounce/hang around the league for a while though. He did just that.

*sees Chandler/Gasol/J Rich/Joe/Jefferson/Battier in lottery*

was actually a pretty productive 1st round. Kwame sucked no matter where he was going, but there should be a study of the psychological aspect of going #1. it seemed to ruin Bennett

Kwame was a good man to man defender, that’s it

His best game I can remember was G3 of WCQF against Amare in 07

everybody thought 2001draft was going to be Eddy Curry vs. Tyson Chandler battle for the number 1 spot since they were high school juniors. It wasn't until 2001 McDonalds All-American game, Kwame (who was coming off the bench) draft stock started to skyrocket

You're right. Kwame was a good defender but had shytty hands and the expectations were way too high in Washington. He had a solid career and made a lot of money, hardly a bust. Anthony Bennett isn't even in the NBA right now.

The best player in that draft was selected 32 overall.

HE WAS THE CONSENSUS #1 PICK, WHAT IS THIS BULLSHIIT?

BUT IF HE WAS DRAFTED 10 OR BEYOND, HE WOULD BE HELD IN MUCH HIGHER REGARD. HE SIMPLY WAS A LOW CONFIDENCE FINESSE BIG WIT TERRIBLE HANDS AND AN AWFUL TOUCH ON OFFENSE.

HIS MAN DEFENSE WAS EXCELLENT ONCE KOBE AND PHIL PUT HIM IN POSITION TO EXCEL THO.

HE’S BEEN KILLIN IT IN THE BIG 3, AS WELL.

HE SHOULDA BEEN DRAFTED AS A DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST WHO ONLY TOUCHED THE BALL ON SPOON-FED DUNKS AS OPPOSED TO A FRANCHISE PLAYER.

Normally teams don't draft defensive specialists with the number 1 pick. He suffered from the same mental state that many busts or players that don't live up to expectations suffer , that is not having a motor/heart/dog in them whatever you want to call it. The talent is there, everyone sees the potential but its difficult to judge a players mental state.

kwame gets blamed so much because it was MJ who wanted him to get drafted

if he was drafted #1 on a lowkey team with no buzz he would be one of those typical draft busts

michael olowokandi was #1 too and nobody talks about him anymore when was a much worse player than kwame for the simple reason - he was too lazy to even work on his game.
