It has nothing to do with the players. It's a safer game now but it's for health reasons. If a guy says we would have knocked the qbs helmet off now that would seem harsh because there's a history of injuries. They actually changed the rules in the nba to make it easier to score. They changed the shot clock to get more shots up. Football rules were only changed because data shows the long term effects of football.

i'm think there is probably just inherently more respect in football because everybody putting on the pads and helmet and going out there putting their body on the line.
obviously some positions more than others, but i don't think that inherent respect is the same in basketball.

I think it's just a cultural thing

NFL rules and higher ups breed a certain level of...following the rules. And I'm sure that stays with a good bit of them after their days are over. NBA for the most part, the players' ego can be as big or even bigger than the sports team. And that's why these nikkas can't accept that they get out classed by players ahead of them

It could have something to do with it but far from the main factor

Their motto is literally "Protect the Shield". The chance for NFL versions of Perkins, Hollins, etc doesn't exist, just like you won't see "Inside the NFL" where two hosts admit to the viewers they don't watch and care about the games or the players playing.

The NBA adopted a "by any means" approach to marketing/ratings and it's hurt the product way more than helped.

Lol, nba former players are wipes from the hustory if the game by the nba.

If they dont sprak the nba and analyst will have peoe never even knowing how good they were.

The nfl actually praises their former players and earlier eras, so there is less generational hostility.

You would never habe a nfl xommish try to delete the 50s and 60s and 70s of their league and act like knly the 80s and after matter or deserves to be recognized, thats what stern dis to the nba.

They had that disrespectful top 50 in the 90s and ignored legit atgs and put scottie pippen in the mix just because of the bulls.
But your arguemnt would make more sense, if it wasn’t the 80s and 90s stars shytting on this generation. Those stars from 80s and 90s are the ones who benefited from the “modern era” separation and designation, and they’re the ones who are seen as the “golden standard” of NBA talent in the history books. Yet they’re shytting on the new generation as if they didn’t get their due. You look at the top 50 list, it’s mostly players born before 1980 and born after 1955. So all those baby boomer/gen X players continually get their props. That cohort of former players born from 1955-1979 are the whiniest bunch ever. I could understand your argument and their angst if they weren’t getting respect. But they keep getting their respect 20-30yrs later and they still mad and salty for no damn reason. We still talk about Jordan, Isaiah, Shaq, KG, Bird, Hakeem etc. Why are they so salty? :jbhmm:

When has the NBA(players, commissioner, media or otherwise) disrespected these pre-millenial players? :jbhmm:
