Dallas by way of Houston by way of San Antonio
was thinking this

To me it makes sense. Spurs wanted him at the same time Dallas dealt for him. Pop has no hesitation about resting players. Spurs also set for a ton of cap space this offseason, but it's never a guarantee that they get anyone with that space (LA was the last big free agent they landed).

Obviously tough since Cuban wouldn't want to deal him in the division, but if he views KP as a bad investment, saddling a division rival with that bad investment may be an option for him.

He would be everything that we honestly was hooping LMA would be when the game changed to big men stretching the floor. While LMA has gotten better with the long ball, KP still better than him at that at this stage of their career and thats exactly what we need. He would be a natural floor spacer and like you said, we’ll manage him

Boston trying to do the same with Tatum

Thats why them taking on Porzingis' contract might not be smart

If I were the majority of teams, I wouldn't take on his contract even if I got multiple picks out of the deal.

Don't do what Detroit did and take on the contract of an injury prone player. Especially a player with the height of KP which makes him even higher of an injury risk. Detroit did the Clippers a solid by taking on the contract and attaching a pick to the deal (SGA).

That move single handedly helped create the present Clippers team that is in the NBA today.

KP was just seen as the piece the Mavs needed to be contenders. Now they are ready to get rid of him while knowing he was an injury risk when they traded for him. It seemed like a good trade at the time though and i can't fault the Mavs for taking a chance on him. Though for some reason i think it's more to the story other then him just being injury prone.
