"Kool Moe Dee recently revealed that he turned down the opportunity to portray drug dealer Nino Brown in the hit 1991 film New Jack City.
"I turned down New Jack City. I was supposed to be in New Jack City with Ice-T," the How Ya Like Me Now" MC revealed in an interview posted to Hip Hop Since 1987's IG. "The Irony is that I was gonna be the drug dealer and Ice-T was gonna be the cop. I turned it down because even though I wanna act and I love to do it, you are trying to get Kool Moe Dee as a drug dealer — it's not getting an actor. Wesley Snipes did a great job, quite frankly, and I'm a big fan of Wesley Snipes. To take my image and make me a drug dealer is something that the oppressor would love to do, and I just wouldn't do it."
Kool Moe Dee is no stranger to acting, and he told The Foundation in 2003 that he missed the opportunity to bond with Tupac Shakur on the set of the 1997 film Gang Related.
"We didn't get a chance to talk as much as I wished we could have," he explained. "I believe that if we had then maybe he would still be here. I saw the direction that he was going into. He was a Gemini, and with them if they are not leaders, but are put in leadership positions, things can go wrong. He had leadership qualities but was not a natural leader. Because of that, he was an individual and not a follower but an individual. When you're in that position, it's easy to feel that you have to validate yourself by saying you're still from the hood and still gutter."
