We've been asking them to shed stereotypical gimmicks for decades. Lol. They had Nakamura and Asuka win both Rumbles last year and had them lose..lol. Yet this year it appears Becky will win...Seth? He better win after guaranteeing it. So what's does that tell you??I believe my point is that no one has, seeing as they don't want to. I'm not sure why you're being obtuse about this you know exactly what's being said in this thread. It's not that Rock isn't "black enough", he simply wasn't presented as the "black"anything. He's mixed. So is Obama, but he was the first "black President" - you got Sheamus as the first Irish born champ, Khali as the first Indian born, these are designations assigned to these guys when they come out long after their bullshyt reigns. Rock was just Rock, never designated or assigned anything else. And that's great. But in omitting that as part of the presentation it also minimizes the accomplishment because it's not being presented as the big deal it is. In doing that, besides the fact that it wasn't the title with actual lineage, it simultaneously removed the opportunity to place that designation for guys like Booker or Mark Henry as first black World champs in WWE because TECHNICALLY Rock was first and you don't want to seem like you're diminishing his heritage - except they never fukking acknowledged it to begin with.
Guaranteed because of it Kofi doesn't get labeled the first black World champ when it's understood he'll be the first fully black WWF/WWE champion by anyone following the company, which is all this really comes down to. Closest, he'll be called the first Ghanaian born champ if we even get that kind of acknowledgement.
But we'll still have reminders of silly ass designations as first Irish born champ. Maybe Kofi will get a shoutout 30 years from now during a black history month montage. Probably not.
