He ain't retiring with 6 rings either.
physically there similar, skill wise i think kobe is a better ball handler then mj
82. Larry was athletic no doubt. But was he ever a level above his peers athletically? No. Guys like Dr. J and Magic were more athletic. Only dudes who were ever just more athletic than everyone else in the league were Wilt, Moses Malone, and Oscar Robertson.
Larry Bird dominated cause he had superior skills NOT because he had superior genes. Wilt/O/Dr. J benefited largely from the fact no one else had their natural gifts. Bird had natural gift, no doubt. But those gifts alone didn't make him an all-time great. It was his work ethic.
bold the part that i'm suppose to be reading please
absolutely not true.
but Kobe was fundamentally a better and smarter bball player than those two, as well as a better determination, which is often overlooked when we talk about great bball players.
Vince was on MJ's level athletically and is an intelligent player, but he never had that fire.
TMac was a 6'8.5" 2 guard with point guard handles and and had a great length, but he never had the intelligence or the desire.
Kobe is going to be a guy people appreciate 10-15 years from now. In fact if he entered the league 5 years later than he did, I think he would have been appreciated more.
That was a great interview too, altho smh at the misleading title.
Based upon what? Kobe was beast athletically at his peak. Exactly what edge did T-Mac or Vince have on him in that regard. Yeah T-Mac was longer (ll) but was he more explosive or stronger? Vince was pretty much the same size and pretty much the same guy athletically. It's debatable with Mike. Mike was prolly stronger and more explosive but the idea that Kobe at the very least was not in these guys class athletically is comical.
Kobe is appreciated now. I'm not really sure how he could be appreciated more. You will always have haters and detractors but people who truly know the game and even most casual fans recognize Kobe for what he is.
TMac was longer, had more bounce and more speed than Kobe.
Vince was MJ athletically but with a longer wingspan.
Kobe wasnt blessed with the hand size those 3 had, and he wasnt as strong as those 3 were either. I remember the year Kobe went up to 230 but wasnt as quick as he was before laterally so he lost that weight.
And no one said he wasnt in that class. Of course he was, but those 3 had more physical gifts than Kobe had. I am not saying Kobe was like Tim Legler at the 2guard position but those guys were better athletically than Kobe.
If Kobe had bigger hands, he would have been more of a slasher than he has been in his NBA career and probably have more points, and thats not saying what if Kobe was stronger, longer wingspan, or had more speed.
Kobe isnt as appreciated as he should be, and its mostly because he came up during the end of (and return) of Jordan and people saw him as the next guy. Because of that, he has always been looked at as what he doesnt have or hasnt done then what he is doing. Then Kobe brought it upon himself with the spat vs Shaq and Colorado. Kobe has over 30,000 points and a lot of people (not on here) couldnt sit back and be amazed by him amassing that many points but instead point out why he isnt Jordan.
tbh, I didnt take that post as saying that. This is the key right here. That is all I am saying. The whole reason I even said anything is because somebody tried to act like Kobe wasn't a top notch athlete in his own right in order to try to play up his work ethic and mental approach. It's not necessary. We all know Kobe is a maniac and his work ethic warrants respect but at his peak he was still more gifted athletically than 99% of guys.
I dont think that is true at all. Its always been, "Kobe is great, but [insert something about MJ]."As far as Kobe's appreciation goes I've seen nothing but non-stop Kobe slobbing from the national media over the last 13 years with the exception of the things he brought on himself (Colorado, girl fight with Shaq, Lakers sucking 04-06). Like I said people who know basketball give him his props and Lebron is the only active guy in his stratosphere when it comes to casual fan appreciation so I'm really not sure what you are referencing. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that.
I dont think that is true at all. Its always been, "Kobe is great, but [insert something about MJ]."
Since Kobe won that 5th title, I do agree its changed a lot but there is always that but. "But he isnt the best player of all time..." So what? Kobe Bryant is an all time great.
