true, but after they missed out on the big time free agents this summer what choice did they really have? i think kobe plays for 3 more seasons left after this one, i expect him to sign one more 2 year deal.

true, the good picks typically don't make a huge different until year 3 but they provide cheap depth and a foundation to attract superstar free agents.
If he really is playing that long, that approach makes sense. But to really make it work he'd have to be a hypocrite and take a cheap deal.

They'd be close to a playoff spot right now if Kobe hadn't sucked so much dikk in the clutch.

and thank god he's sucked. what good would getting swept outta the first round do for the lakers long term. only hope for future rings is to be putrid this year so we can get Jahlil Okafor and Mudiay.

I bet its eating you haters that the Lakers aren't being a treadmill team. We're bottoming out the right way. A top 5 pick paired with Randle and cap space to sign 2 max free agents GUARANTEES the Lakers will be back in the title chase in no time.

no sh*t sherlock, did you not read the opening post? :damn:

THEY ARE TANKING

there is no point in being the 9th or 10th seed

yall just don't get it :snoop:

no they get it. they're just pissed cause they'd rather we be a treadmill team like the atlanta hawks. but mitch and the crew are smarter than that. once we missed on Melo and Bron, we coulda signed some mid-level free agets like Isiah Thomas and Lance Stepheson and prolly would be competed for the 8th seed.

instead Mitch and crew wisely realized that you only win rings with superstars and just signing decent players to get the 8th seed wouldn't cut it in LA. we only play for rings. and the smartest way to get right back in the CHAMPIONSHIP chase is to bottom out and get a top 5 pick.

Please don't repeat what i'm about to tell you...........

When kobe signed this recent 2 year deal the plan was for him to play for 4 more years

The Lakers knew that they would have a struggle period so they wanted to sign Kobe to a frontloaded contract to get his salary out of the way so they could make room for other stars in 2016. The CBA has limits on how much you can pay someone up front so this is how the deal was worked out under the table
4 year 75 million dollar contract

part 1. 2 years 48.5 million
part 2. 2 years 26.5 million

please don't repeat this because it's technically illegal.

so yeah, in 2016 you're potentially looking at

Kobe bryant - 13 mil
Nick Young - 6 mil
Julius Randle - 3 mil
Jahlil Okafor - 5 mil
Pick from rockets - 1 mil

That leaves the lakers with 52 mil to fill 7 roster spots

theyre not tanking they just suck

usually tanking involves that.

we're not saying the players aren't trying. hell philly's players are playing their hearts outs. they just don't have the talent to compete because the front office doesn't want them to. tanking is a front office decision not a player or coach decision. lakers coulda signed lance stephenson and isiah thomas after missing on melo and bron. they chose not to because they knew those guys wouldn't help get us to rings, which is what the lakers play for.

we don't play to just make the playoffs like some teams. these best thing for the lakers going forward is to be so bad this year that we keep our top 5 pick. pair that with Randle and you have nice young nucleus. also after next year we'll also have money to sign two max free agents.

sucking really bad this year sets us up for a really nice future.

You Kobe stans:mjlol:

It's over for Kobe my dawg, his career is done, only thing he can do is rack up on points, no more rings,MVP's nothing its all over:russ:

:dahell: he's 36 years old. who the fukk wins MVPs after turning 36?

Kobe's legacy is already set and its unanimously as a top 10 all-time legend. all he can do right now is add to it. and becoming the all-time leading scorer would be a nice ending to a legendary career.

Do you expect him to play a long time after this contract ends? If not, he doesn't really have time to be throwing away a potential playoff seed :mjcry:

Getting the top 5 pick is good for the Lakers but it will have minimal impact on Kobe's quest for 6 if he's only going to play one year with him. Even the good picks aren't really difference makers until their third year or so.

what would kobe get with being a 8th seed and getting swept outta the playoffs? this is NOT a championship roster. we all knew that going into the season. i can tell you're just mad cause what the lakers are doing right now is the smartest way to help kobe get one more ring before he retires.

if the lakers get a top 5 pick, they don't have to keep it. they can package it along with Randle for a superstar vet. add that to the cap space they'll have next year to sign another star and they could be back in contention by next fall.

you just hate the fact that the Lakers are doing the smart thing so they can get back in TITLE contention. fukk the playoffs. if we don't have a realistic chance of winning the chip, i'd rather gun for the #1 pick.

or trade bait. i guarantee you if the Lakers land the #1 pick they'll look to trade it for a superstar vet. add that to a max free aent like Gasol or Aldridge and you'll have a title contender.

these haters are just mad that we aren't down on all this losing because we see the bigger picture. i was actually rooting for kobe to miss that game winner tonight because i know racking up the Ls is more importnat toward competing for rings again than some meaningless win.

7 of those losses were very winnable if Kobe doesn't shyt the bed in the end. That's a possible 10-6 instead of 3-13. That's not even counting the blowout losses where he sucked the whole game.

I bet it makes you mad that Kobe's struggles this year dont bother us at all. I've been smiling like a muthafukka watching kobe shoot us outta games in the 4th quarter. thank god he's playing this year. we won't have to deal with the crap we dealt with last year when nick young kept fukkin up the tank campaign with clutch performances.

with the gawd back we're gonna finish games the right way this year. by losing em and keeping our pick. :smugfavre:

3 years ago Kobe wasn't 36 and didn't blow out his achilles. and they also just got howard and nash. no the Lakers have done the best given the hand they've been dealt. hell we were a veto away from turning Gasol/Odom/Bynum into Paul/Howard. Lakers ended up with Nash/Kobe/Gasol/Howard. no one thought they'd not mesh. no one thought Kobe would blow out his achilles in the middle of a renaissance season.

as long as the Lakers get a top 5 pick this summer, they'll be fine. they just need a disgrunted superstar to pop up for they can package the pick and Randle. then sign another superstar in free agency. that will lead em right back into contention.
