Kobe Bryant still building legacy brick-by-brick

The case against Kobe Bryant officially began with a set of missed field-goal attempts.

The Lakers were eliminated in overtime of Game 5 of the Western Conference semi-finals when Bryant shot an air-ball at the end of regulation, followed by another that would have tied the game in the extra period. He was comforted by his teammate Shaquille O’Neal who encouraged him to keep shooting the ball. It was advice that would ironically contribute to their division years later.
Kobe Bryant hasn’t stopped shooting. He became the NBA’s all-time leader in missed field-goals during the Lakers 102-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. As infamous as it sounds, being known as the player who has missed the most shots means you have been around long enough to take them.

It wasn’t a forgone conclusion that Kobe Bryant would miss the most shots in NBA history. He had a mere 176 attempts during the regular season of his rookie year. To put it in perspective, fellow 96 draft class rookie Antoine Walker hoisted away 1,354 attempts for the Boston Celtics. It took Bryant two seasons and change to become the starting shooting-guard for the Lakers after Eddie Jones was traded to the Charlotte Hornets during the 1999 lockout season.

Kobe has been consistently good for so long that the evolution of his game is taken for granted. Unlike LeBron James, Bryant wasn’t given the green-light as a rookie. He even endured DNP’s under coach Del Harris when he was known as “Showtime” because of his flashy play in practice. But Bryant still had to earn minutes behind Eddie Jones and current Head Coach Byron Scott.
And he kept shooting.

He quickly earned the reputation as an introvert by choosing not to be a part of the Hollywood club scene with known playboys like Shaq and Rick Fox. His competitive nature and aggressiveness got around the league quickly, and the elder statesman started laying the wood as a right of passage. It all culminated with a fight with Chris Childs against the New York Knicks during the Lakers 2000 championship run. The nationally televised game between the two most popular teams in the NBA was the graduation of Kobe Bryant into superstar status.

His longevity has masked the fact that he’s played in seven seasons of 70 games or less. It took him five years before he completed an 80 game NBA season.

Bryant hasn’t ceased firing away, continuing to add bricks to the foundation he’s set. He has the chance to join Michael Jordan as the only players to lead the league in scoring at 36-years old. He has displayed that athleticism is still very much a part of his game, and although they won’t admit it, many analyst privately expressed that Bryant would no longer be an all-star after the layoff.
Kobe said he would rather go 0-30 instead of 0-9. He’s missed the most shots because he’s had the drive to make the most.

TYRONE GA!
I've never seen a guy who was so loyal to the players union and his team (management) at the same
damn time. The dualities :banderas:

We already know that Kobe took a 2 year 48 million dollar deal to show players that they shouldn't have to work on discounts to hide a gm's incompetence. Now everybody wants to wait for the new CBA before they sign their next long term deal so they can cash out. Financial analyst forecast an extra 2.5 billion dollars going to black households over the next 5 years as a result of Kobe setting the tone for players demanding fair pay. If this money was invested at an 8% interest rate for 78 years, that would yield over one trillion dollars for black families. :wow:

People don't realize that his contract also helped the lakers pull a tank move. Kobe is nearing the end of his career and he wants to add more championships to his resume, but He loves the Lakers with all his heart so he wants them to be able to compete after he leaves the game. He wants the Lakers to finish in the bottom 5 so they can keep their pick and add another promising prospect. Kobe taking 24 mil a year was part of the tanking plan. If Kobe eats up 40% of the cap it takes away the Lakers flexibility to add overpaid players who can't carry a team to a championship in the future.
:ohhh:

To the untrained eye, it looks like the lakers are a sh*t team who can't win games.
NOPE! :mjlol: Kobe can shoot 45% from the field in his sleep. People believe he's legitimately missing shots because he's coming back from an injury that most guys would have retired from.....nah, that's just part of the tanking plan. Kobe is taking advantage of the public assuming that since Father Time has slowed down every other player in history that it has to slow Him down too. This is a logical fallacy on many different levels and a very stupid assumption. Remember this, when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.

Kobes supposed to be taking it easy and letting other teams win, but sometimes his competitive nature forces him to subconsciously fight back. You saw it last night :wow:

It's easy to do like Philadelphia and make it obvious that you don't want to win. It's tough to tank and make it look like you're trying to compete. The Lakers are doing such a good job of hiding the fact that they're tanking that guys are gonna come in here and argue that the Lakers legitimately suck and can't win.

:wow:

For the remedial posters asking for sources on the 2.5 billion dollars added to black households.....

The salary cap is expected to increase by 25 million dollars. If each team adds an average of 20 mil to their payroll, that's an extra 600 million in player salaries per year.

80% of the NBA is black, but black players earn more than 85% of the overall salaries. That means an extra 510 million in salaries for black players per year, which comes out to more than 2.5 billion over 5 years. This doesn't wven factor in the additional yearly salary cap increases that we will see.

My Pops Forever RIP
But it's true
Would you rather the 76ers tanking paying hard earned money to literally see NBDL players on the court.

Or would you rather see a pagan gawd just out that having fun
Hard earned money?

Ain't it cheap as fukk to go to Sixer games?

I'd rather pay the equivalent of Nuggets and fries combo at McDonalds to watch the other team show up and culo blast Philly than to sell my children for some Staples Center nosebleeds and watch Kobe stare down referees in anger, hoping I get a shytty mud butt inducing taco for my troubles at the end of the night
