Because it’s a minor infraction and many others have gotten similar ones, according to the other pilots in the article. He was a good pilot but probably too over confidence instead of playing it fully safe in a weather situation like that.

yea this is an example of journalism trying to move public opinion one way. The investigation I don't believe is finished, so we don't know what exactly is to blame, and this tweet & article is trying to paint the man as something his whole career would indicate he isn't. The violation he had was because he flew into LAX airspace. From the article
According to the FAA report, Zobayan’s helicopter was near the Hawthorne, California, airport and heading north when he asked the LAX tower for permission to cross LAX airspace. Zobayan was told that weather conditions didn’t meet the minimum for pilots using visual flight rules — that is, flying by sight.

Zaboyan was asked whether he could maintain “VFR conditions.”

Zaboyan replied that he could “maintain special VFR” — meaning he sought permission to fly by sight in less-than-optimal visibility.

When air traffic control denied the request and told him to stay clear of the area, Zobayan replied that he could “maintain VRF” but during the conversation, the helicopter entered the airspace, according to the record.

Zobayan contacted authorities and his company after the incident and was cooperative. But an FAA investigator faulted him for failing to properly plan and review current weather at LAX, which would have allowed him time to communicate earlier with the tower in order to receive clearance, according to the record.

The report said Zobayan “admitted his error, took responsibility for his action, and was willing to take any other necessary steps toward compliance.”

“There are no indications that this is a repeated incident and there are no signs that this incident is a trend with Mr. Zobayan,” the report said.

now what the article does show is what you said which he was overly confident in his flying skills and may not have properly planned for the weather of that day, but I also read earlier that the fog rolled in pretty quickly...so we gotta wait til the investigation is finished before making any claims.

Like most of yall posting in here this still hurts not as an nba fan but as a black man and parent. This thread is too deep to see if anyone posted on it but that day was so dark.

Not to go too Badu or 3 stacks but i consider myself an empath that can sense good and bad vibes from people since i was a kid and that morning when i got the news i felt like yoda when order 66 happened. I had some random shyt planned that day but i was sunk in my couch with what felt like a 100lb weight vest.

i dont know how vanessa and the other girls are getting thru this.

Im an empath too breh I really be feeling shyt sometimes. I truly cannot fathom how Vanessa and the kids are doing. I don’t even want to.
