Not competing in dunk contest makes Bron look like a diva. Dude prolly feels his brand is taking a risk by competing. Tbf, the way we consume sports, if breh doesnt put down some brazy dunks, he'll prolly get clowned. In that sense, it's kind of a sensible decision.

Another thing, NBA is way less humble than it was back in the day, they know people gonna watch regardless.

LeBron didn't become coddled until he went back to Cleveland, before that he was public enemy #1 to them just because he exercised his right to go to a different team. The fact that Kobe never ran from a challenge is what made him the people's champ, and idc what people say but LeBron never competing in the slam dunk contest will always be looked at as weak. Jordan did it and Kobe did it but apparently LBJ is too good for it:stopitslime:
However, just to combat some revisionism, lets us forget when Kobe was tryna force a move from the Lakers around 07-08.

I dont disagree with your assessment that people put him in high regard for staying at Lakers, but lets call a spade, a spade.

I was noticing that too..

Random athletes in every sport were discussing mamba mentality while he was ALIVE

Dude,
Just became a sports Jedi..

Media either ignored it or acted confused but you are right. Athletes were already shouting out the Mamba Mentality when Kobe was alive.

Kyrie famously mentioned it after he hit the game winning shot in Game 7 of the 2016 Finals. D-Wade did the same after he hit a game winner during his final season. Outside of basketball you had NFL stars like Saquon Barkley and Gerald McCoy saying they played with the Mamba Mentality writing it on their cleats before games. Jamal Adams said in an interview he locks in like "Kobe in the 4th" when he plays football. Young QBs like Dwayne Haskins and Josh Allen saying they pattern their leadership style after Kobe. You also had Allen Iverson and Terrell Owens both give Kobe shout outs during their Hall of Fame speeches for inspiring them.

Other athletes were showering Kobe with praise WHILE HE WAS ALIVE. What we're seeing right now in death is simply more attention of the same love he was getting while he was alive.

1.Did you see the dunks LeBron used to do during his pre-game warm-ups back in his early Cavs days? Dude was a monster with his creativity.
2.Kobe basically forced the Lakers to actually do something instead of just sitting on their ass.

I remember. His dunks were/are brazy. Constantly on ESPN SC top 10 plays:wow:

I mean Jerry West was talking about how he had to talk him into staying.

I'm not a mind reader:leostare:, so i dont know what his true intentions were, but on face value, it seemed like he wanted to dip:hubie: .
He definitely wanted change, that we can agree on:ehh:.

Richard Sherman walking off the field and physically pushing the trainer away when he tore his Achilles and said in the press conference all he could think about was how Kobe sank 2 free throws with a torn Achilles.

There was a female basketball player (college) that hit a game winner and mentioned mamba mentality.

Dude was already legend status while alive.. you know that will be 10X in death.

The buzzer beaters the shots and dunks. Every fukking time my ass ran around just like that feeling what he felt. I wish he was around for more.
