Princess Diana was huge, being a part of the royal family and also all the charity work she was involved in. Her death definitely rocked the world.

But Kobe going is a bigger shock to me, since he sorta grew up in the public eye to becoming a mature family man. I will never forget Kobe and many from this generation never will.

Princess Diana's death is the most comprable to Kobe's death in the last 50 years. Both rocked the world. I was a kid when Diana died so it hasn't effected me the way Kobe's death has. But I do remember it was a big deal.

For those of you who have bought the SI remembrance issue, did it come with a name tag on the front cover? That's the only reason I haven't ordered it yet.

It was a big thing breh. Even my mom was shocked by it, and she's not even one to give much shyt about stuff like that. I think they aired her funeral worldwide. Can't discredit how much of an impact her death had on the world, especially under the circumstances on how it happened.

I wa's a little kid when Diana died and I can remember people being shocked but there wasnt the amount of grieving like we saw with Kobe

real shyt breh. My mom's was too and she don't give a damn about any of that stuff either. I remember being in elementary and not fully understanding the magnitude of it.

It didn't affect you because her life obviously didn't have much of an impact on you. Kobe was that for us.

I was 10. I remember how big her death was. If you were under 6-7 I don't think you would give much attention to it.

MJ was a wreck and was self destructive everyone knew he was gonna die.

No one really cared about Diana outside of the UK Kobe was a worldwide icon only beginning his story just imagine what this guy was gonna accomplish outside of basketball

lol no one expected MJ to die hence that’s why it was a HUGE shocker when it happened and to say no one cared about princess diana outside of the UK is straight lies or sheer ignorance

anyway this whole idea of comparing the magnitude of celebrity deaths is unnecessary in this thread

If Yonce ever leaves before her time that would be the last straw for me. I would just lose it

I respect and appreciate Beyonce and that would shatter alot of females but Kobe to me is a whole different level of respect. But that's just me.. especially having grown up here in L.A.

Don't want to compare though- this death hit me haRd AF

I will say the Aaliyah Death was a Big one in itself at the time but a Tragedy to B would be mad major

Yeah people are really understating how major MJs passing was at the time. It came as a shock. The man was selling out football stadiums and was weeks away from running his final tour ("This Is It.") He wasnt Amy Winehouse. It stunned everybody. Similar to how Kobe touched everyone with the basketball as his instrument of choice, MJ had done the same with the microphone, and like Kobe, the world had literally seen him grow up. He was in the industry from the time he was 7 or 8 years old and he was dubbed the greatest entertainer of all time before 30. Folks were devastated. Google literally crashed. I think over time we've forgotten that MJ was arguably the most famous man alive and the most recognizable celebrity internationally from the moment he dropped Thriller in 1982. People literally fainted upon meeting him. I have a neice thats 5 and she was singing Smooth Criminal a month ago.

Both of these guys were special and it's a testament to how special Kobe really was that he had anywhere near the impact globally in his passing that names such as Princess Diana, JFK, and Michael Jackson had considering his initial reach (basketball) was such a smaller platform in comparison to music, the presidency, and a monarchy. The NBA has only become more accessible globally on a mass scale in the last few years. That wasn't the case for half of Beans career. Again, he was just special. I dont think we'll see anything like it again in our lifetime.

Kobe's death definitely impacted grown men way more than any other celeb death. Especially in the 20-40 year old age range since we essentially grew up on him.
