I believe Von got the word from somebody that Rondo was at the Hookah Lounge and he kept his manager out the loop because he knew he wouldn't go for it. He was high and likely power tripping from the album release party.
He's clearly not a "wartime consigliere" and he just doesn't know how to talk about open cases at all. You'd think he worked for Rondo the way he was throwing Von under the bus.
He of all people should know YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL THE PRESS (ESPECIALLY AKADEMIKS) DETAILS! Especially with murder cases. Just say "I'm not at liberty to go into detail." It's his job to know how to answer questions.
And with many of his clients dead or in jail, he's clearly just not that good at handling street dudes (and that's all he manages too).
A competent manager would have made Von leave from the hookah spot, not wait outside an additional 15-30 minutes. Where were those 3 security guards when everything happened?

Understand the duties and responsibilities of a real manager. Like it or not, you're basically a babysitter/parent and have to care about yout clients' lives more than your own. You provide the structure. It's the absolute most stressful job in the entertainment industry.
It's the manager's job to make sure the artist is safe and that all things are running smooth. They have to put their foot down sometimes and not be another "homie." "NOT ON MY WATCH" has to be the motto that you live by.
If the artist doesn't trust and take heed the manager's decisions, it's not gonna work because the manager is the one ultimately responsible. Because one wrong decision can lead to multiple people hurt, arrested or dead. It has to be respect or these King Von things happen.
It's a heavy job that is not to be taken lightly. Exactly why most managers move on to executive work as they get older and say they won't go back to day-to-day managing again because of all the headaches, low pay & how easy it is to be fired. Coach K is an example.
Thats what Im thinking.. if he get lucky taking it to trial he can get off (if its really his blood brother) with a self defense typa defense seeing as they was jumping him with guns, and had they not did that, the shooting would not have occurred.

These nikkas bring it on themselves with no one else to blame despite being absolved of accountability by their "fans" and/or listeners and it has nothing to do with da system in place and everything to do with their actions and/or decisions.
