best thing about today was Wentz moving confident. I knew the tear wasn't gonna impact him physically, he was never a track star. The mental aspect could've absolutely hindered his innate awareness and subtle mobility though, and it didn't :wow: he was moving like he never left in terms of feeling the rush and knowing when to bail :blessed:

That was the most encouraging thing. He was back at it with the spins and change of directions and stood strong in the pocket also.

I think hes doing good its just the team has been using the Nascar D-line a lot and he moves inside for that so he's losing speed rush opportunities.

He also got the least amount of snaps this game from the DE group.
Eagles snap counts vs. Colts: Brandon Graham less than Michael Bennett? Main takeaways

PHILADELPHIA --There is a lot to be learned in looking at a team's player-by-player snap count totals from any given game.

That's especially true at certain positions (offensive line, defensive line) where a player's role isn't as obvious to the naked eye.

For the Eagles' 20-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field, the coaching staff made a number of interesting decisions with playing time.

Here's a full list of the snap counts, by position, with overall thoughts split up by offense and defense.

OFFENSE: There were 82 offensive snaps

  • QB: Carson Wentz (82)
  • RB: Corey Clement (35), Wendell Smallwood (29), Josh Adams (8)
  • WR: Nelson Agholor (80), Kamar Aiken (45), Jordan Matthews (33), Shelton Gibson (1)
  • TE: Zach Ertz (81), Dallas Goedert (55), Joshua Perkins (31)
  • OL: Lane Johnson/Jason Peters/Jason Kelce/Stefen Wisniewski/Brandon Brooks (82), Isaac Seumalo (2)

THOUGHTS: It was nearly an even split between Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood, though the latter was much more productive with his touches. Smallwood proved why the Eagles continue to keep him around. Josh Adams looked solid in his NFL debut and probably did enough to stay on the 53-man roster ...

The Eagles opted more frequently for two- and three-tight end sets than they had previously, leaving minimal snaps for Kamar Aiken and Jordan Matthews. Even when they played, the receivers had a rough day getting open and helping out Carson Wentz at all ... After playing just 34 snaps the first two weeks, Dallas Goedert nearly doubled that total in Week 3 and looked stellar while doing it. At this point, it's time we just accept that the Eagles value Joshua Perkins role in this offense and his ability to play receiver, too.

DEFENSE: There were 59 defensive snaps

  • DE: Derek Barnett (38), Michael Bennett (35), Chris Long (36), Brandon Graham (34)
  • DT: Fletcher Cox (52), Haloti Ngata (27), Destiny Vaeao (12), Bruce Hector (2)
  • LB: Jordan Hicks (59), Nigel Bradham (41), Kamu Grugier-Hill (9)
  • CB: Ronald Darby (59), Jalen Mills (55), Sidney Jones (46), Rasul Douglas (4)
  • S: Malcolm Jenkins (59), Corey Graham (47), Rodney McLeod (34)

THOUGHTS: A lot to unpack here. Defensive end in particular. Brandon Graham was the team's leader in snaps through two weeks at defensive end, but against the Colts he was in last. Barnett had the most impactful play of any defensive player on his fourth quarter sack. After receiving limited snaps last week, Michael Bennett increased into a more impactful role and he played well, as did Chris Long. This is likely just more of a week to give Graham a breather more than a sign of any other issue. This defensive end group remains stellar ...

Haloti Ngata has clearly surpassed Destiny Vaeao on the defensive tackle depth chart ... The Eagles have gone full-on nickel defense for the most part, relegating Kamu Grugier-Hill to, essentially, backup duty while Nathan Gerry didn't play on defense ... With Rodney McLeod (knee) injured in the third quarter, veteran Corey Graham took on an expanded role. He'd likely continue to do so if McLeod misses any time, with the inexperienced Deiondre Hall taking on the mantle as the team's top backup at safety ... Nothing too surprising at cornerback, though Rasul Douglas did spell Jalen Mills a little bit.

Doug Pederson gives updates on Jay Ajayi, Darren Sproles, and Alshon Jeffery

Doug Pederson says Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles could return for this week’s Eagles game

It’s been awhile since Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was in the ear of Carson Wentz on game day, and the pair squeaked out a win over the Colts in the quarterback’s return to action.

While there were plenty of things to be excited about — Dallas Goedert’s first career TD, and Wentz taking a few hits and getting back up — there were a long list of things that the team will need to work on as they begin to prepare for the Titans in Week 4.

Pederson spoke to the media on Victory Monday, and here’s what he had to say:

Injury updates
Alshon Jeffery still hasn’t been cleared for contact yet, but they are going to look at him more this week and the head coach should have more information for the media on Wednesday.

He said both Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles are day-to-day, but Pederson expects both to be available on Sunday against the Titans — barring any setbacks, of course.

He said he has an idea of the personnel on offense, but that they still don’t have a good idea of what the identity of this group is yet. With so many players still out with injuries and players like Wentz and Jason Peters not getting much of a preseason, Pederson said they are still trying to get a sense of what they have collectively on offense.

Pederson said this kind of uncertainty is a bit odd, but it gives the defense and special teams an opportunity to step up early in the year, and then once the offense gets going later on, things start firing on all cylinders.

On Carson Wentz’s return
Pederson talked about Wentz’s preparation through his rehab has helped him and helped him develop as a leader. He talked about Wentz being such a competitor and studying hard, and while yesterday’s game wasn’t perfect, Pederson noted “there wasn’t really a big drop that people had expected”.

He said that Sunday’s game was a good matchup for Wentz to get back on the field, but looking at the big picture, the QBs time on the sideline has definitely helped.

Pederson says Wentz continues to grow in the situational aspects of the game, and that he brings such a competitive impact to the team’s offense — pointing out some of the QBs scrambles and third-down plays from Sunday.

On protecting the QB
Pederson talked about the five sack on Carson Wentz on Sunday, and the head coach pointed out three causes: 1) offensive line gets beat, 2) QB hangs on to the ball or tries to scramble, and 3) flat out coverage.

It was a little bit of all three of those. He pointed to a couple situations in which Wentz should have thrown the ball away, but Pederson said they are all correctable mistakes and small things that they can easily work on.

On the win over the Colts
He was asked about Jalen Mills performance the past few weeks, and Pederson noted that he’s been playing extremely well. He did point out that Mills needs to be more aware of his off-hand, but that he’s physical and tough and always in position to make a play.

Pederson continued to talk about how with any player, especially young players, there is a need to move on after a missed opportunity. He said that Mills has that ability, whether it’s a flag or a missed tackle, the cornerback is able to focus on what’s next.

Over on offense, Pederson was asked why Shelton Gibson hasn’t gotten more play time — especially with Mike Wallace being out. The head coach said he didn’t want to give away too much scheme-wise, but that yesterday they felt more comfortable going with some of their 12- and 13-personnel groupings.

Pederson said that’s just how the game unfolded, but that Gibson is another young player who is continuing to grow and get better with the offense. They did have a package of plays ready for him against the Colts, they just weren’t able to use them.

The head coach also was very happy with the young running backs on Sunday, particularly Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood. He specifically pointed out these they are both core special team players, and for them to turn around and also play on offense is tough to do, but they both did a great job.

Barring some fukkery we should get Ajayi and Sproles back against the Titans and I'm trying to see this run game out of a 2 TE set.

:shaq2:

We should still get that W tho.

Thats actually better then i thought he did while watching live but if you add in the PI calls he gave up 57 yards on 5 passes. I just need him to take that next step in development.

Darby was far worse than Mills yesterday.

Mills is a bit of a fukk up but he doesn't deserve hate today. Both those PIs were just shytty situations

Mills is not a bum. He caught too much shyt for that D Jax play. That play was like 80 percent Malcolm Jenkins fault.

Mills problem is that he doesn't trust his play recognition or doesn't have any when he is isolated and the ball is coming in deep. It looks like he panics when the receiver turns to make a play on the ball and gets grabby when he is in position to make a play on the ball.

Those PIs against the colts were underthrown balls. if Mills sees the receiver turn and he is slowing down speed, in that quick instance, Mills gotta recognize that the ball is coming high and slow and all he has to do is slow down and turn his head and play the ball. U are already in a better position than the receiver, no need to grab.

And no damn need to grab T.Y. Hilton on a jumpball situation.

But Mills plays scared deep, doesn't trust his recognition or recognize the situation and feels the need to grab as a security measure, even when the play is in his advantage.

Sidney Jones has the better makeup and feel for the outside. I saw a couple times in the preseason, when he is isolated on a deep ball, where he didn't panic cause he is aware of what the receiver is doing and just plays the ball.

Mills would be better in the slot, he would rarely get those deep balls, he can press on those usually smaller twitchy slot receivers. I think it better matches his skill set.

Offenses are gonna keep picking on Mills on the outside cause he does that grabby shyt. Its easy yardage.

Good win. You can see us shaking off the rust as a team, game by game. We're winning DESPITE our shortcomings. Plus, think about it...historically, we typically get stronger as the season goes on, especially defensively and particularly in our coverage units. That's what happened last year.

Offensively, we look like a completely different team with Carson in there. Back to lookin dangerous. Remember, the Colts HANDLED the Redskins just last week.

Is it just me, or is Zach Ertz starting to PISS y'all off, too, with his drops and short-arming catches? Need more Goedert.

Overall, though, I'm not worried about these fools, y'all. If anything, we just need to get 100% HEALTHY.

But I AM gonna say it: we should trade for Le'Veon Bell.

Seriously. We cannot rely upon Sproles nor Ajayi due to their health....and Corey ain't enough (I have never been sold on Smallwood). Carson threw the damn ball THIRTY SEVEN times on Sunday.

We need that threat of a runner breaking out so that the RPO game becomes deadly again. Our whole offense is right up that nikka's alley, I think he would thrive in our offense. Plus, you KNOW he would love to stick it to his cross state teammates in Pittsburgh by staying in the state. :heh:

Do it, Howie. :demonic:

We dont have the cap space for a leveon deal. He got a franchise tag salary cap hit and plus any team trading for him gotta give him a new deal to make him the highest paid running back in the league.

We got like 5 mil in cap space.

And you rarely see player for player deals. And who can we trade to match Leveon's salary that we dont need and pittsburgh wants.

We should be fine if Ajayi can stay healthy the rest of the way.

Nah I'd rather have the 4 backs we got now and saving cash then drop the bag to get Leveon. I'd rather get a top end receiver to stretch the field

I feel y'all, and I know we're up against the cap but Howie has worked miracles before....

I just hope Ajayi holds up this year. Bro's knee basically LACKS cartilage, shyt is literally bone on bone. :mjcry:

That was cool when we didn't have to DEPEND on him, due to Blount's presence...now we do, though. Cause I'm sorry, but Darren Sproles is done as far as having a major role in the running game. And I love the guy, but his time at RB is up.

I wish we still had Shady. :sadcam:
