Khabib will pull out so let's just re title this thread to McGregor vs Lee
That’d be wild, you’re not the first person to suggest this. I don’t see Khabib having a bad weight cut though. He did his own weight cut the last time and it went smooth. Of course he could get injured.

If we go off purely based on his Al fight, he will get demolished by McGregor in round 1 or 2. Meaning if he tries to stand up. His coach told Ariel that it was maddening for them that he wanted to stand and that he basically does what he wants. If McGregor can goad him into standing, he’ll learn that McGregor is not last-minute Al real fast.

He is an elite grappler, so this could be a super boring (7 takedowns) type of fight and if McGregor gasses out, then it will become easier for Khabib.

I do think the big moment got to Khabib vs Al, his performance was nowhere near dominant and he looked basic. Better than Al, but nowhere close to McGregor.

I got McGregor winning this in round 1 or 2.

If McGregor faces Lee, this could actually become a great fight. Lee has all the telltale signs of a future champ, also mindset wise. Sure he lost against Tony and there’s no shame in that: but the build up was perfect, he truly believes he’ll be a champ and also in defeat he remained available for press. I think it’s too soon for him to be able to beat a very focused and confident and just truly skilled McGregor but anything is possible. McGregor’s an elite athlete who thrives in this ‘the world is watching’ situation..

Has anybody else noticed that McGregor in street clothes (police station appearance, court appearances) looks almost in better or at least equal physical shape than/as before fights?

His coach said he’s been training, Danis said he never stops training.

He looks quite heavy (170?) walking around but if he’s decided after the Diaz/McGregor fight to walk around heavier but in close-to-top shape he’ll rehydrate well after the cut and come in likely heavier and stronger than Khabib. Khabib’s also heavier than normal (Q&A before 2 events ago)

Should be some big ‘155’ers on fight night

I don't even know what a Khabib is but I hate how some stay downplaying the impact of preparation in combat sports...

Is it really that surprising dude looked ordinary against a last minute fill in ?

Last minute implies he had no time to put in prep work for his opponent...

Assuming he never fought that dude before that is the equivalent of going into the fight blind...

It's going in blind for both though, right? It's not like cuz had time to prepare for all of Khabib's takedowns :jbhmm:

I'm not claiming to be some UFC expert here.. but I've been led to believe that Kabib is supposed to be God tier at wrestling and takedowns, so I don't care if he has time to prepare or not, he shouldn't be struggling to get any takedowns on some average cat like the last dude he fought.

Now after watching that I'm supposed to believe he gonna go in there and fucc up Mcgregor? Nahhhh

conor been overrated and his reign will be just like Rhonda's.
Except hes literally beaten some of the best to ever do it. Aldo was literally the best 145er for a decade and dominated him. Beat max holloway who is now champion at 145 (would love to see them run that one again) and beat eddie alvarez who is great. He may be a slightly overrated just cause of how famous he is but him and rousey dont belong in the same sentence.

Khabib is made specifically for Connor. Watch him get knocked out coming in for a takedown.

You saw how he did Barbosa, and Barbosa is far from a bytch with his hands and feet.

IF and i am IF Khabib has his head on right, this should be BBQ chicken for him. Conor's advantages have always been the mental aspect, dude's like Tyson in reverse. When Tyson damn near beat you at the staredown and shook, Conor got you gassed up crazy and going out your element trying to knock his block off.

If I remember Barbosa looked good in that fight too...

If Conor can avoid getting taken down it's an easy win for him

He didn't have a chance to look like anything, Khabib smothered dude the whole fight :mjlol:

Barbosas's TDD is worlds better than Conor's, Khabib is putting dude on the mat, pending he goes in with a clear head :whoa:

Barboza's footwork is atrocious tho, he needs space to get off his kicks(his hands are mediocre at best) and as long as you pressure him he'll start running himself backwards into the cage or in a circle to reset himself. McGregor and him not in the same ballpark in regards to standup skills.

Just look at this, bruh did a whole lap to end up almost where he started, no pivoting or concept of angles

Not sure how he looked good in that fight if he didn't even look like the same person by the end of the fight, Khabib smashed him and the crowd was applauding him for toughing it out.

At this level, there's no 'easy win' both fighters are at the top of their game. It's just too simplified to say "if Khabib takes him down it's over, if Khabib doesn't it's a cakewalk for Conor" which is the consensus - the emotional game will play a big role too.

We can agree on one thing: Conor has the mental edge. He truly don't care about the other fighter's words or attitude; he's hyper confident and has an innate ability to walk into the Octagon under immense pressure extremely calm and see his opponent not as "name of opponent" but just an obstacle. He's super worked up in the face offs etc. but in the Octagon, he's extremely calm.

The way Khabib fought vs Al.. I'm not sure if he was annoyed at the change of fighters and all the drama, but he was not nearly as effective as against Barbosa. He can say "I wanted to give a show" but he didn't give a show. If Khabib truly gets worked up and wants to stand up, Conor's left is infamous or should I say "notorious" for a reason. And if he's calm, and does what he normally does and Khabib makes the mistake of standing too long and too nonchalantly... this normally would go Conor's way. So mindset will maybe be more important than technique even..

khabib said he was trying to add new techniques. Makes sense, he saw dude as a lesser fighter so tried to evole his skill. Hes not gonna take chances and just wing it against connor

Al isn't an average cat when it comes to wrestling though. He was a college wrestler. Much more experience defending takedowns than Conor has. And yes, Khabib is the GOAT wrestler at 155 and it isn't particularly close. He literally takes down everyone he fights multiple times. If Conor doesn't score an early round knockout, he's going to be taken down with 100% certainty.
