In certain cultures marriage is like a cult. I have Asian friends who've done arranged marriages where they never met the person before. To me that seems strange as hell. But to them it's strange not getting married as quickly as possible. Literally the parents harras their children until they tie the knot and have kids. I don't see nearly the same kind of obsession with black families pushing marriage. But white or Asian they seem to marry right after college.

Honestly, with the state of denuclearization in the black family, I think the pro-marriage statement is good (if both parties are on the same page with values etc). The family is the cornerstone/building block of any community. Families are more stable than a bunch of single folks.
