This could be true..... Buy fukk what you talking about I’m not getting married. Those who are, enjoy. Blessings to you.

Well funny shyt is i have calculated this into my head with me being in the IT world . I can see why they would slow play you progression and raises etc . Its just funny when this society claims to care about the nuclear family but want change the marriage laws. I have thought about this is why i need other streams of income in cause this is the cause on a JOB. I see a JOB doing this . It will get worse cause its not enough men getting married anymore so what the government will do is raise the taxes on things men love/like to do. Its a way to force a man to play in this system even thoe we know its rigged .

It really depends on where you work and what your goals are :yeshrug:

I'm single and do okay in IT, but then again I'm not that interested in management. Where I'm at the IT manager barely makes more than me and has to deal with all types of BS I don't have to worry about.

I'm not GMB though, really, I just haven't met the right one.

:gucci: Breh that’s the point of the thread. He said corporate ladder.

Thread title says "prosper in their careers". :yeshrug:

I think you can have a prosperous career (and make good money) without having to be in upper management. But if that's your definition of prosperous, then yeah, I agree that being unmarried will tend to hurt you.

I can't see how being married would have helped me in my career but who knows.

I flash my wedding ring every chance I get in the interview so that they can subconsciously think, ok, I'm not going to have to worry about some HR shyt with this guy in the future. He will go to work and go home without trying to fukk half the staff. That is true with me but not for others. That said, it works. I'm a black guy rising up the ladder. It shows stability, that is what this ring symbolizes.

Got it. I’m sorry, missed your point. Thanks for clarifying.

From a cost benefit perspective it doesn’t make sense

This isn’t the 1950s, sure the stereotype is there in established corporations

However, let’s say you’ll make 200,000 dollars in C-suite. Factor in the cost of the marriage and your spouse, you’ll most likely get a mortgage two cars. Let’s say your wife makes around 50k.

You get a 1 million dollar house for 20 years that’s around 6k a month. Lease a two nice Mercedes for you both.

That’s around 4000 a month in car payments.

So far that’s 10,000 a month in basic living expenses - not including anything else.

That leaves both of you to split 10,000 dollars a month. Roughly leaving you with 5k a month to spend before taxes

Quite frankly, a lot of Black men don’t get opportunities because we don’t shoot the breeze after worth with colleagues.

Too many of us have a “put my head down at work and go home” approach. Which is good if you just want to stack money and work on a side biz.

But, consistently grabbing beers after work with colleagues will allow you to gain access to information about office politics, openings, etc. You’ll also gain the trust of key people.

People tend to look out for people they can trust.

$5 Crown and down is cool from time to time with the brehs. But, if you want to move up, you have to learn how to connect with non-Blacks after work.

Overall though, no man is making it to the top positions in corporate America as a bachelor. Too much risk for shareholders.

Yeah pretty much. You don't have to "shuck and jive" but be personable and all of that.

The only single (as in weren't previously married) CEOs that come to mind have been gay li keTim Cook and John Browne (and he lost his job because he got extorted).
