i don't think Kevin Hart is currently at his peak anymore, but nobody has stepped up to be the next big thing yet.

also Whoopi deserves a mention in this convo. she was literally the highest earning black comedian for a time in the 80s. made more classic films than kevin hart and even took home a grammy iirc

I'm just saying this 10 year run seems pretty damn long and it's prolific. I'm not saying he's better than Eddie or Chappelle....but he's moving unabated in ways others have not done nor have done for near as long.

Again, I never denied any of the things you keep bringing up. I also never compared him to anyone. I said he's not funny to me.

There's no reason to compare comedians. There's enough money for all of them to eat and they are

You're on a quest to show and tell me Kevin is worthy of his success. I never said he wasn't. You don't have to convince me Kevin Hart is successful, I see it, I've watched him get there.

Kevin can have a 50 year reign, that won't change the fact that some people don't think he's funny. It's also not stopping his bag

Seems like a decade straight he was on top. NBA celebrity games, movies, commercials, stand ups, talk shows, podcast etc.

When Eddie, Martin, Chris Rock, Chappelle & Kat Williams had the crown....seemed very short.

Kevin had it so long he became annoying, lol.
Kevin Hart can't compete with the names on that list. His run has mostly been due to being safe and having work ethic, but in terms of quality content, ge's not in the same league.

Whoopi not a male. That's for another thread. She's a legend. Movies, stand up comedy, prominent role on Star Trek next Gen.

Katt Williams personal issues, Jamie Foxx focusing on music for a minute and Bernie Mac dying gave runway to Kevin, imo.

I think Bernie Mac was about to go on a late run. Had the show, movies and Nike commercials with LeBron....just needed a couple top notch modern stand-ups to get the crown.

Patrice O'Neal dying cleared way for Kevin, imo as well

lol! cleared for the way for what. He will never be as funny as the names mentioned in the this thread, no matter how many seats he sells. Even he would tell you that.

But Kevin is good at being funny in a conversation.....not many comedians can do that well.

Oh I definitely see what you're saying. It's like classic albums or classic songs. Kevin doesn't really have any of that.

Kevin has done a lot things but they're not memorable or staples

Eddie has Raw/Delirious, Buckwheat, Coming to America, Beverly Hills Cop etc.

Martin has his show, Def Comedy jam, Bad Boys etc.

The comedy game is like rap. The only reason Drake and Kendrick are revered is because they have the machine pushing them in a sea of mediocre talent.

Kevin used to be be funny but he really fell off. That Oscars controversy really neutered him. Chappelle is the only one carrying the torch but even his last few specials have been a dud to me.

Louis CK still hasn’t really recovered from his sexual assault scandal and it shows.

I can’t remember the last “black” comedy movie I watched and really died laughing watching. We had a plethora in the 80s/90s and early 00s. I don’t know what happened. It’s the “ratchet” era right now. Is there no room for a smart black comedy movie to shine?

None of them movies made back then were inherently smart.

If Patrice O’Neal was alive, and if he was willing to play the politics game of Hollywood, a lot of comedians would have taken a back seat in the last 15 years. Kevin Hart included.

:yeshrug: I think Kevin is funny, and his only fault is not having a great filmography. But I do think there’s been a lot of revisionist history. When it comes to dude, like we’re not going to act like at one point. The community wasn’t messing with him heavy. Before he became repetitive and oversaturated. People loved/quoted Seriously Funny, Laugh at My Pain, and Let Me Explain. I remembered people also fukked with Paper Soldiers. Real Husbands of Hollywood was also popular. And he’s the only comedian that held his own against Jamie Foxx lol. That Foxhole episode is a classic.

Besides Eddie Murphy, Bill Cosby and Dave Chappelle had the most successful run as a comedian

Eddie Murphy owned the 80's with Raw, Delirious along with a bunch of comedy movies such as Nutty Professor, Coming to America, etc

Chappelle was killing stand up in the late 90's/early 00's with standup specials such as Killing Me Softly

Till this day, Chappelle Show remains hugely influential with multiple quotables
