Since Jordan how many championship caliber superstar wings can you consider a lockdown defender? I’m not talking about the Paul Georges of the world I mean guys who can lead a team to a ring. I’ll wait. Some faq is gonna say Kawhi because he has an FMVP but imo the Spurs are a special and complicated case, it’s yet to be seen if Kawhi can lead a team to a ring himself he just happened to step up at the right time in that Finals.

That's a horrendously fukking stupid qualifier. A lockdown defender is a lockdown defender. Was Carmelo not an elite scorer? Is DeAndre Jordan not an elite rebounder? Nobody is grading on a curve based on other skills. Either you are or you're not. LeBron doesn't have to be considered the best at every single fukking thing on the court

Bron was never a lock down defender- as in an entire season or two of severely impacting the best players nightly. He was an elite help defender, a great instinctive defender and could defend 1-on-1 against a best player in spurts. This is mostly due to his shaky footwork. Man to man defense is so dependent on footwork.

To be fair, very few players are ever actually truly lock down defenders. Even guys like Chris Paul still get WORKED by the likes of Stephen curry.


Even Michael Jordan never actually guarded his oppenents best player (Larry bird, Isiah thomas, etc)

Right. Tooo much energy to be expanded for a top tier offensive player to also be a top tier lockdown defender guarding your opponents best player. Even Kawhi's defense slipped a bit last year because of the load he had to carry.

honnestly kawhi until the last two season is the only guy i can name a true LOCKDOWN defender..

and it's devastating on you physically to have to anticipate someone's movement.. move fast then them to block their path.. most good defenders will do it a few possessions

butler, PG, Chris paul.. all lock down defenders but even they will take possessions off... shyt is tiring.
