Word...I remember the heat that Backseat Freestyle was getting. Heck, I was one of the detractors but I came to appreciate it in due time because it fits within the context of the album.

Right. I think with a conceptual album, it's very tough to take a song and place it by itself, because some songs need context for it. Like with Backseat Freestyle, the subject matter is generic and weak. BUT, the concept of that song was a young K. Dot freestyling in the back of a Toyota. Swimming Pools was abut alcoholism, but fit into the album because he had just gotten jumped by Sherane's people.

I think with this album, people are gonna be iffy towards it, but it'll be a grower for many. Cause this isn't the type of music you hear anymore, and we as the listeners are more accustomed to 808s and rapid hi-hats than chord progressions and live percussions.

I think if you're a fan of funk, you'll be able to like this. Many people who don't like this are either ruined by hype or just don't listen to this stuff a lot. It's the soulful stuff that Hip Hop needs, instrumentation and musicality.

Song is good, but if this is the best song on the album? :patrice:

I mean....the hype train was rolling long before this sectioneighty dude opened his mouth, so it aint his fault. But still.....I think all this mess around the album is going to ruin a lot of first listens.

I'm going to do my best not to judge it too harshly. After all, my favorite album of the 2010's was 'disappointing' on first listen (Lonerism)

Yes, we definitely need more soul in the game. I'm tired of the 808's already. shyt is for the birds!!

Funk is soul music, it makes you boogie lmao. I love it.

King Kunta was produced by Sounwave, I believe. Also, there's supposedly a Dre beat on here as well. Then there's also the Pharrell song we might get.

A Dre and Pharrell beat :whew:

We 'bout to :eat:

With the variety of the songs we've heard so far, it makes me wonder how this all ties together. I can see how (i) fits in with King Kunta sonically, even though King Kunta is the third track and (i) is the second last.

Also, To Pimp A Butterfly is about 10 minutes long than Good Kid MaaD City as well.

Yeah, I'm definitely anticipating how each song ties with one another as well. :ehh:

I'm giving info but would not leak ACTUAL songs like these fools... :snoop:

Its typical and ironic after our talk @KidStranglehold that the same KTT we spoke about is the one who is leaking King Kunta. I know albums always leak and yes i remember what happened with GKMC but why would you release a song this early? These damn idiots. typical it ends up being Ground central troll headquarters KTT that leaks it.

And it was said King Kunta was the BEST song on the album so this may have fukked up the album listening.. God KTT man :snoop:

Those small dikk fakkits were also trolling the wikipedia. Trall headquarters indeed.

This album is gonna be wack and I'm going to be here for it when I read your disappointment.

Some people are so easily pleased. All a rapper has to do is use some euphemism for being black and people get 'hyped'. So sad.

Funny thing about Kendrick is, he can't find the time to be 'pro-black' and 'unapologetic' in his music but when he's asked questions in real life, he's either MUTE, EVASIVE or CIRCUMSPECT.

The dude is nothing more than a stunt artist using shock value to sell records and you fools eat it up. Tragic.

exactly. but like I said, this album is "To Pimp The Hood" and that's what Kendrick and his team are doing.

King Kunta is straight garbage. Y'all Kendrick fans are no different from Young Thug fans. You're caught up in the image and gimmick. K-dot's gimmick is "sound deep and copy Black Messiah because that was popular and just came out."

this album is probably a rap version of "Black messiah"

yep.

I agree. It's musical and very old-school. I think we need to listen to the whole album before we say anything. There's some songs off GKMC that don't sound too great by itself.

Because they were shyt. If a song can't stand on its own, it's shyt. It doesn't matter how the album is hyped and the story the record execs are trying to cram down your throat.

Time and time again you Kendrick fans expose yourselves as people who don't even listen to the music and are more caught up in the image.

Kendrick could make a song with him rhyming about taking a shyt with shyt sounds as the beat, and y'all would say it was brilliant in the context of the whole story. And if I ask you to clarify what the overall story is, you'd give some half-assed interpretation or say I'm an idiot because I don't recognize Black power.
