I feel like if Kendrick dropped a single before the album, it would fit better within the context of the album and it would be heavily criticized. Like another "Jarreau of Rap" situation.

And if it's a double album, it might not make any sense to release any singles until after the album. Wait to see what people respond to the most, combine that with the singles you already chose, and then you have the whole summer locked up.

It’s less about needing a single and more about rolling your album out properly. Drake doesn’t need singles at all yet still drops them before an album. I expected a single/video today, or Heart V. Maybe we get something on Monday.

Just seems like an odd rollout for Interscope, so far. The press release, the website…I get leaning into the mystery stuff and getting fans to speculate but at some point you gotta let the machine do it’s thing for you.
