Kendrick Lamar albums are like Movie's, Plays and musical's, he's a screenwriter, director, visionary.

Section 80 ~ Independent Sundance Film

Good kid Mad City ~ Autobiography Film

TPAB ~ A Black Play on The Black Experience even The Name To Pimp A Butterfly sounds like those Black Plays in the 80's

Damn ~ Summer blockbuster Film

Mr. Morale and The Big Stepper's ~ Broadway Musical

Nas really dropped 3 projects in 2 years better than this mid it took Kendrick 5 years to make:mjlol:
The first superstar rapper to have his music in all the college classrooms and get no play in the streets
Mfs forcing this sonically displeasing slam poetry over beats because of "content" and "messaging"
Bruh was talking some real shyt on a few of these tracks but what do that mean when I listen to the song once and never wanna hear it again
It's a balance and he proved he can do it with GKMC, dude is outsmarting himself, Pep Guardiola of rap
6/10

pitchfork fukked up the perfect metacritic score :snoop:

they really out to get Kendrick

They gave his last three albums 9's or higher. This is the way of popular culture though and Pitchfork in particular, you can't be the golden boy forever. A run can only last so long and they wanna condense his run to the 2010's. They are testing the waters here IMO because he's still a critical darling amongst other outlets...give him a number that's still decent but not quite as praiseworthy as what they gave the last three. This way they can give his next project a 5 or a 6. Build 'em up just to knock 'em down lol.

I officially like 16/18 songs on the album.

We Cry Together - isn't a bad song, it's just doing too much. If I'm listening to the album all the way thru....then I'd let it ride but overall it's a cool song that I won't play much.

Purple Hearts - don't really care for this one but I honestly think this song is going to be everywhere this Summer.

Favorite song hands down.... Mirror. Song is beautiful brehs...... album is amazing....

I'm not going go out and call it the best album ever but it's dope as hell.

I wonder what it is with rap artists where they want to sing full tracks instead of selecting a singer. Especially for someone like Kendrick, who has shown an incredible knack for putting the right people on the right track. Crown has its moments but should have had someone like Anna Wise on it to hit the melodies he's trying to reach. I love how Drake will just bring in a dope singer and give him or her an entire interlude to match whatever his vision is.

The rest of the singing on the track is fine from him, but that track feels like a miss that could have been great due to this.

So Cal
And THIS is what I’m saying. Like Cole been thru this same shyt and literally NOONE was sensitive about it. nikkas ain’t give a fukk and just criticized him.
Nah real ones appreciated the fukk out of 4YEO, the closing song, makes me tear up when I'm down because it's a personal story that far too many black kids/family can relate to

Mirror is my favorite song too. It might be the best “I can’t be what you demand of me so fukk your expectations” track i’ve heard since Hate Me Now. But where Nas was defiant and aggressive Kendrick is more at peace
