lmao what better way to highlight the problem with Lupe. 2 verses carrying an overwrought metaphor. Hov comes thru, plays with a metaphor for a bit (pen/paintings/etc) but doesn't let that get in the way of him spitting some dope bars later.
Whatever u say kid. I aint say the nikka better than Hov. I said there’s a CLEAR influence. And there was no problem with Lupe’s verse. U just liked Jay’s better. Which is fine. Jay one of the GOATs. But Lu DEF held his own on there.

Yes they make perfect sense. Noone says he SOUNDS like Nas. And that’s what I think ur looking for. But u can clearly tell he’s influenced by Nas. He will tell u this and he has said it himself. And I think he would know. And I can apply that shyt Walt said to a whole lot of fanbases on the Coli. Yea. nikkas DO be wildin when talkin bout Lu sometimes. But same goes for alotta MORE undeserving nikkas on this site.
I agree.
It doesn't stop at Lupe and it certainly didn't start with him
but there's a consistent group of posters who use "I love lyricism"
as the reason for their ridiculous dikk riding of Lupe but when it
comes to discussing "Lyricism" or where Lupe may fall short.

Anyone with a pair of eyes can see that they don't "Love lyricism" they Love LUPE.

Obviously that's not aimed at you because you can the chinks in
the mans armor :yeshrug: we disagree on who is better between
Lupe and Kendrick but I think you as a poster deliver pretty even handed criticisms.

And as a rapper, I think you're more than qualified to discuss any of the rappers
mentioned on here.

nice cherry picking breh.

course deck has more memorable joints than lupe. hes in wutang clan. but yall dissing him like hes garbage just wrong. deck got no solos worth a damn, lupe does. lupe is a more advanced writer like rakim was a more advanced writer. idk what yall even getting at anymore. eberyone was biggin up ra for his "writing techniques" back in the day cause he was head and shoulders above teh rest. lupe is head and shoulders above MOST emcees, especially the ones of today

since when dont we judge mcs on storytelling ability, multi ability, cadences, flows, etc. cuz someone labled it a "literary device" that means its different? yall for real? noone talked about rakims ability? really? really breh? how else can ones writing be judged if its not judged by the standards of WRITING? we aint in the 90s anymore brehs. and no offense, we were all maybe 5-13 years of age at that time at that...

i already said id take wtf deck over lupe anyday but yall saying shyt like cause yall dont like lupe that means he dont use same techniques as nas when lu is a nas stan n sharked him hard. nothing yall saying is making any sense.

and let me repeat this cause yall missing the point. this thread is about LYRICISM. kenny and deck are more enjoyable mcs to me than lupe. but to not give lupe his props lyrically because you think hes wack in other places is just wrong.

i appreciate the work dude puts into nhis craft. period. i didnt think i had to say i woudl rather listen to a wu album full of deck verses over lupe anyday but apparently i do.
Not cherry picking Breh. Just the idea of Lupe having 10 platinum singles seemed wild inaccurate to me so I had to check.

I don't think Lupe is wack. I think he's supremely talented. I think he gets in his own way by being overly complicated. He's a waste of talent to me because his catalog is light. :yeshrug:

Yeah, I'm surprised that @Billy Ocean errs on this side of a Kendrick vs. Lupe debate considering the other stuff he champions. And this is coming from someone who thinks Lupe is overrated on this board. I agree that sometimes Lupe is overly dense, but at least he's the real deal. Kendrick is even more guilty of being too wordy without saying anything.
Kendrick can be obtuse as well. Definitely. It doesn't detract from me enjoying the songs/rhymes though. :yeshrug:

This conversation jumped the shark real quick :snoop:

I’m a huge fan of both rappers and I can easily say that Lupe is the better rapper but Kendrick is currently a better artist. It’s not really that hard to digest tbh. Anyone that thinks Lupe is wack is intentionally being obtuse.

And the whole “we don’t care about literary techniques” angle is the kind of shyt that prevents rap from getting the respect it properly deserves. These guys are out here putting words together better than a lot of the historically celebrated poets but they’ll never get their respect if we keep them in the “Just shut up and rap” box.
Nah. Hip hop isn't classic literature and it loses part of its essence when you try to put it in that box.
To me it's the greatest art form ever so I hear you

I think if Lu combined how he spit early in his career(first 2 albums) with the breath control he has now(his breath control was terrible early on). He would garner alot more respect and attention. Also as far as albums I think he has 3 solid albums in his discography. F&L, The Cool, and T&Y. He also has some really dope mixtapes from early on as well.

I dont see how a professed Nas fan can laugh at the comparison. Cause it’s clearly there if u actually listen to both artists. Jay too. See. I can recognize influence without actin like the nikka is better than the people he’s influenced by. I said he’s more cryptic now. But listen to some shyt like this which is around when Control came out. Tell me this don’t sound Jay influenced. ANYBODY can hear it who listens.

If you're talking to Billy Ocean you're wasting your time. Lupe fiasco whooped his ass and spit in his milk during elementary school

All of this seems like a desperate attempt to get lupe noticed more and in the conversation.

Lupe just doesn't connect with people and he doesn't make albums as good as Kendrick.

Sorry lupe stans, but it's the truth everyone except you knows.

I doubt it ...he already has the respect of his peers and attention ? The guy had an entire hacker network ready to go at Atlantic

He's too stubborn to do otherwise
