It's just my two cents. I could go into more detail on but I'm not going to bore everyone in this thread about tastes changing as you get older. Another thread, another time.

This thread is about Kendrick Lamar dropping one of the hottest debuts in years.

Nah u should go into detail. Lol because idk how you can say GKMC is better than the documentary

Nah I cosign you 100%, of all the songs to mention on LIG I can't believe duke picked World's An Addiction, that song is in my bottom 3 on that album, I haven't even listened to it in full to hear what he's saying cuz I hit skip after the first few seconds every time.

for real, I love nas to death, he's 1a-1b with Jay as far as favorite artist ever

but I just can't cosign people trying to put LIG above some of his older stuff

to each his own but beat selection on that album put me to sleep, some tracks were too dope and I still listen to this day but still... Lyrically he brings it as he always does but it seems people trying to hard to focus on lyrics and what he's spitting but not on the ensemble

I have the same problem with Lupe's album, he spits that good shyt and most of the time i'm :wow:

but I don't care whatever flow you use, how many dope bars you spit if it's not in harmony with the MUSIC , than it remains sub par to me

but blind stans won't want to hear that

Now and NEver actually serves its purpose as a light and cheery album closer given the overall dark and eery feel of the project imo..

His verses on there were pure fire too.

IMO they're equal in terms of quality. I can see myself listening to NLDW more than the Money Store in the future though because it focuses on one direction throughout the album...that dark, warped sound, which was what I wanted from them (album wise). Come and get me, black dice and hunger games still have me :krs: whenever I listen to them. Hunger games especially because it sounds like a hip hop take on grime music, which I've never really heard before. If you've never listened to grime music before, listen to tracks like dj wonder's what riddim and you'll see what i'm getting at.

:salute:
YOOOO that "Come Up and get me" has so much fvcking energy in it.
Have my neighbors thinking I'm nuts in the house screaming "COME UP AND GET ME !" :russ: at the top of my lungs

Fvcking dope album.
It's like these dudes took all the energy of cats like Pastor Troy/Lil Jon/ Waka Flocka and made it even more potent.

I'll probably get negged to bolivia for saying this but there is so many tracks on GKMC I'd prefer listening to

I mean what's so good about it ? Yeah he's spitting his guts off, lyricism is out of this world

but the flow is meh, he's not riding the beat, beat is boring, song overall is a fine lyrical exercise but poor musically

I'll take Money Trees and many other tracks over World's An Addiction any day of the week

I never understood the hype for that Nas album, some tracks are great, don't get me wrong but there's so many tracks were he's just spitting and doesn't care about the form of the song and goes off using whatever flow whether it fits the beat or not

this right here though... this is such a refined product, every beats, every sounds, every skits serves its purpose, there's an harmony to it that I could never find on LIG

:dead: kendrick stans is something else, and this coming from a kendrick stan

I fukk with this...and Kendrick is obviously gonna be wildly overrated (commercially, radio), because he is sonically a bit different, but that is alright with me...only negative on this album was on the otherwise solid 'backstreet freestyle' he made me cringe with "Martin had a DREAM" then he juxtaposes "kendrick have dream" :leostare::whoa::dry:, also mary j blige fukk that lady man...

:ohlawd: This album is incredible, y'all. More cohesive AND consistent then Section.80 to me, and I loved that album. Granted, I gotta give it some time (shyt didn't even hit shelves yet), but this gives me the feeling I had when I first heard 2001 and MMLP. Its different then anything else out and breathes new life into not only Westcoast hip hop, but hip hop in general. I don't know what people expected to hear from Kendrick. Part of the reason I ride with him in the first place is because you never really know what to expect from him. People keep comparing this to LIG, which was great because it showed a true return to form for Nas, and proved that he could still put together a great album, musically, when he's got his mind set on it. It didn't change the game though, and nobody expected it to (he already accomplished that with Illmatic). I honestly believe that this album has the potential to do that. Like I said, I gotta give it some more time but as of now, it's a solid 4.5/5 to me.
