I finally caught onto the brilliance of this album...I was straight sh*tin' on it the other day, but after a few listens. Wow..
Not really sure what people are so amazed by on this album. The album is hardly "brilliant". I would reserve that title for Lupe's effort. That being said the album is EXTREMELY entertaining and is easily top 5 this year. However, there are far too many medioicre tracks on here for me to grant this disc classic status. My favorites so far include:
bytch Don't Kill my vibe(my fav right now)
Backstreet Freestyle
The Art of Freestyle
Money trees
Good Kid
MAAD City
Swimming pools
Sing about me
Real
Compton
The Recipe
Tracks I don't lik
Now or Never
Black Boy Fly
Poetic Justice
Sans the bonus tracks on the deluxe disk its probably a classic. With the bonus tracks its a 4/5 disc. Overall its a great album, very cohesive and tells a great (although trite) story. I am excited for the future piff that we will see from Kendrick going forward though.
So far for me this year its:
1. Food and Liquor II
2. Nas Life is Good
3. Kendrick Lamar - GKMC
4. Ab-soul - Control System
5. Big KRIT - Ro4eva
He is from Compton...At first I was , but second listend everything clicked.
I swear if Andre 3000 was from Compton, this is the album he would had made.
All those martian adlibs and female voices singing throughout Kendrick's verses, screams Outkast. In no way, that's a diss. These new rappers from different regions have 2 decades of this Rap fluences to easily meld into any style depsite where they come from.
Drake verse on Poetic Justice killed my vibe.
