If true shows that Lupe influence :ehh:
I don't how if it's Lupe influenced to be honest.
If anything, I think it's very similar to what he already did on GKMC, he likes
circular albums with stories that feed into themselves.

On topic:
I've been thinking about the unfounded claims that TPAB is "pretentious".
If anything I think it's a very down to earth and straight to the point album.
Dude talks about being insecure.
Dude talks about his mom and section 8.
Dude talks about his homies tryna come up on rappers and their jewelry
and all of these other very human instances.
It isn't this sensationalized ignorant borderline parody of low income black people.
It makes them PEOPLE not caricatures that'll fit neatly into a fit for TV music video.

I mean I listen to albums like Section.80, GKMC, TPAB and now DAMN.
and I just relate.

I'm talking cousin's in prison, hanging out with prostitutes/strippers,straight A students
with mothers on section 8. etc. those kinds of things.

It doesn't come off as condescending, patronizing or like this comical view of blackness
or being black and working class in America.

There was a time when you could have dope conversations about albums on here.

Now it's just Stan wars :mindblown:

Love this album btw
This isn't really a discussion board anymore, it's sort of a circle
of shytty trolls who dap each other up as they move from one
unfounded claim to another.
If you notice a lot of the best posters don't even bother to discuss
anything anymore here.
I'm talking extremely skilled rappers, dope producers, and generally well learned
and knowledgeable posters have been supplanted by the trolls and idiots.

And oddly enough, two well known trolls have some of the highest posts counts in this thread.

Lupe the reason I became K.Dot fan in the first place. He was cosigning and hyping up GKMC on Twitter, I listened to bytch Don't Kill My VIbe and was like ok :ehh: who is this nikka Kendrick Lamar. Before you know it I'm bumping Section 80 and the rest is history.

Your comment is ironic because on the contrary it was the reverse. It was cacs giving it perfect scores on websites like Pitchfork and cosigning it everywhere.

On the other hand it was actually Black people who were more so hating on the album. Lets be 100 now. Now me personally I love that album

Having spent hours deciphering T&Y by Lupe and being 100% it's an album that is meant be played both from front to back and then back to front, I can see the small clues that you could play DAMN. Backwards.

But I hope Kendrick don't intended it like that cus it kind of feels lazy. I also don't get telling the damnation on the rewind listen. The album feels dark enough as it is. Rewinding it its even more dark.

I don't buy it.

But I should also say I havnt listened to it more then three times so I could be missing somethings. But it only took two listens to get what Lupe wanted with T&Y.

This album is supposed to be listened backwards. It tells another story :ohhh: When played backwards, it is the story as if ducky (kdot's dad)was killed. Played front to back, Kendricks' weaknesses are shown. Back to front, Kendricks' wickedness is prominent. This ties in to the duality/reverse theming in the album. When played backwards, his wickedness ends in BLOOD as he tries to be kind and dies to the lady of justice who can't see through his materialistic self.

"Is it wicknedness, or is it weakness? You decide...."

Wickedness = Damn played back to front
Weakness = Damn played front to back
