1. Songs go viral all the time and don't matter or disappear. I don't remember any Rocky stuff until that second mixtape dropped.

2. The problem is that you're labeling basic label shyt as plant shyt, and claiming Kendrick is the biggest offender when the reality is nearly all your favorite rappers are getting that push to varying levels. You cannot knock Kendrick while ignoring all the similarities to Rocky. Only difference is Rocky has far fewer fans and isn't as hot as Cole, Kendrick, Drake, etc.

Let's look at Rocky sales tho.

First album: went gold. clap for em

Second album: major label bomb

So let's be real. Meanwhile Cole and Kendrick have had consistent sales. Big Sean has seen sales increases. Rocky is fading after his first album now that the hype is gone.

3. The biggest difference between Kendrick's hype is that he gets far more attention from non traditional mediums - non music blogs and sites. Slate, New Republic, etc have written many think pieces about him. The only other rappers who get that type of attention are Kanye and sometimes Drake.

So far you haven't displayed a single argument to explain why Kendrick isn't popular or just hype. Dude went plat with a rap album with no major singles and no mainstream sound. Let's be real here, "hype" alone isn't going to make that work in this sales climate. And in terms of GKMC are you going to argue people weren't fukking with it?
:mjlol:

this petty hate is too much fam. I like some of your opinions on rap too which makes this lazy shyt disappointing...

I actually enjoy some electronic dance music, so your insult falls flat breh

You are so out of touch and gleefully ignorant it's hysterical.

:mjlol: "He's not running the clubs" Holy fukk, you actually said that.

Goddamn, you Kendrick haters are so pathetic with that shyt. It's not even worth addressing anymore.
Kendrick is allegedly one of the biggest stars in hiphop, yet nearly 4 years after his plat debut he still cant do a tour like the ones nicki, drake, kanye, jay, wayne have done. Wonder what the problem is.

:duck:

You're trying to spin this as though Rocky didn't create his own buzz and was somehow obscure until Live.Love.ASAP. His first mixtape/EP/whatever has a song that goes viral, which leads him to a brilliant second mixtape. He had a song that got legit attention.

Whereas Duckie lounged in obscurity releasing wack shyt until Dre showed up.

nah. But you're clearly ignoring this:

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Otherwise, I don't wanna hear the words "Rocky a plant" coming out the mouths of a Kendrick stan ever.

irrelevant to the thread topic.

Create two thread topics:
1. Comparing subsequent album sales
2. Source of Kendrick's hype post-Dre.

Because it's smarter to do a tour in bigger cities to sell out bigger venues because people from other cities will travel to them thus producing more ticket sales, maybe?

The deflection lol

Kendrick had buzz in Cali and was on blogs before the Def Jam deal, and before Interscope. Did he have a viral song like Purple Swag? Nope. Never denied that. But he was doing well before Overly Dedicated, locally. Isn't that the point of this conversation? We're pointing out dude grinded until he made it with Interscope. TDE was the hottest new "independent" label in Cali before Interscope, that's a fact.

Why is it surprising that west coast legends gave Kendrick the torch? Dre been doing that for years, its' nothing new.

Maybe Rocky would have gotten a Hov cosign if he wasn't busy jacking Houston :troll:

Again, if he's just a media creation why is he maintaining a large amount of popularity? Likewise, how come Rocky's fade in popularity doesn't prove that being a media creation doesn't always guarantee success.

It's called going to a label and getting a deal. Then it's called your label pushing you. This has been done for every artist in history.

The deflection is you talking about everything else under the sun but Kendrick being leafy. Read the OP.

Kendrick had buzz in Cali and was on blogs before the Def Jam deal, and before Interscope.

Receipts?

Again, no major blogs covered Kendrick's music nor raved about it. He had no attention till Dre showed up.

Did he have a viral song like Purple Swag? Nope. Never denied that.

But you tried to play it off like having a viral song is a small thing that happens all the time :mjlol:

But he was doing well before Overly Dedicated, locally.

No he wasn't. Nipsey Hussle was doing well locally. Nipsey got some coverage on major rap blogs. He had an actual movement. And I'm saying this as someone who thinks Nipsey is straight trash.

I've been to LA. I have friends in LA. Nobody was talking about Kendrick like that till Dre showed up.

Isn't that the point of this conversation? We're pointing out dude grinded until he made it with Interscope.

Releasing shyt mixtapes that no one cares about isn't grinding. And frankly, this has nothing to do with grind. I don't know why y'all pretend to not see this.

It has to do with how well your music speaks for itself. If your music can't garner attention on its own, it's probably shyt. More importantly, it exposes the "he organic" lie.

Kendrick was obscure as fukk till Dre showed up.

I didn't quote/respond to the rest of your comments because they were irrelevant.

At least admit this is true, which you still haven't addressed. Probably because there is no such video. Something to think about as you make the quick "SirBiatch dont know what he's talking about but why do I keep checking for his opinions" getaway:

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Hasn't he been headling festivals though?
Festivals go on every year regardless of who's there, right?
I mean his own tour with zero association to yearly events.
Showing up for a check for a festival that has already been branded is NOT the same thing as headlining your own tour

Oh I see. You can't actually shyt on the man's music... So you bring up irrelevant topics to try and discredit him. He put out an album full of b sides and it outsold Rocky's last album. I see why you're mad breh
