Call a dude a plant who grinded on a small label since he was 15 and has multiple mixtapes put out from that age and you see the progression from back then to now but not the dude that blew up into a superstar overnight from one mixtape and no other previous catalogue brehs

a) so you'd rather sit through years of trash catalog than one brilliant mixtape?

b) y'all are deliberately avoiding the actual definition of a plant. Someone who relies entirely on the machine/industry cosigns for buzz to take them out of obscurity because their music aint really hitting. Kendrick is living proof of that. Until Dre stepped in, Kendrick was ignored.

Rocky came into the game with a featureless mixtape that catapulted him to stardom. Him/Yams created their own buzz for the most part. Which means the music spoke for itself. Real talent. End of story.

You're not only taking the definition of a plant that seriously (which for the record there is not an actual definition but vague attributes that one could attatch itself making one a plant.) But you're now comparing ASAP Rocky to Kendrick Lamar and stating one is better than the other because one didn't get a cosign but had a better debut mixtape.

I'm just bewildered you actually believe that.

You're rambling and saying sentences that don't make sense, like the one I bolded. I'm sure there's a decent idea in there, but your word choice is awkward and the meaning is lost.

Please pick one main idea and expand on it.

and for the record, there are multiple reasons why ASAP Rocky is way better than Kendrick. One of them is Rocky had the better debut mixtape by miles and it spoke for itself (no legendary cosigns). That's what real ass music does.

I'm saying

There is no actual definition of a plant, because what could be consider a plant, is actually common practices in the music business.

ASAP makes music that's good for his lane, but he doesn't have a classic and barely has any staying power.

I said barely, which means he's smart and resourceful enough to keep his name and brand out there.

And when you foolishly compare to a different kind of artist, you look extremely foolish and naive breh.

So since were doing that, where's outside of Live Love ASAP, what does he have that's touching Section 80?
Or GKMC?
Or Duckworths Magnus Opus TPAB?

Hell does ASAP even have the ability to top K Dot's B-sides on Untitled?:mjlol:

Like C'mon breh, let's be for real.

Only person I could see ASAP surpassing in terms of quality, ironically would be Drake.

a) we're going off topic here. We're only talking about Duckie being a plant, not comparing discogs.

b) But if you wanna compare discogs, Live.Love.ASAP > TDE's entire discog.

Kendrick making awful baby talk goo goo gah gah noises on that new EP. All time terrible rap voice. pimp pimp hooray is obnoxious too. guy sucks.

the dude has a song/adlib called "pimp pimp hooray?"

fukk..... that's GARBAGE :deadmanny:

He seems to just blurt it throughout the album. I'm sure his stans will apply some social commentary theme to it but to me its just cringe worthy.

It's adorable arguing with someone as clueless as you.

Sad part is, you're being serious.

As I've said before, nearly every rapper is a "plant" by Coli standards. If you're a rapper under 30 who is somewhat attractive (pause) or have some type of aesthetic gimmick (like...red dreadlocks) you have had conversations with record labels and are more than likely on a creative label deal. I've worked at a label, this is the reality of the situation.

The biggest difference between Cole/Kendrick/Wale/KRIT/etc and Rocky is that they were grinding for years before getting that shot. Rocky put out a mixtape no one cared about (Deep Purple), then dropped a huge mixtape that was IMMEDIATELY all over the blogs, local radio, twitter, etc. Within a few weeks the rumors of him signing a "1mil+" deal started circulating, which gave him more clout. That's how you know he was a plant and already signed. It's basic music label shyt brehs, I'm not even hating.

Rap music is dominated by the perception of success. If people hear a rapper has signed a big deal, all of a sudden they are seen as legit or hot. We saw this happen with Trinidad James, Keef, etc etc. Because most music fans are idiots and don't realize a 3mil "label deal" is actually a slave loan the artist has to repay. No one is getting 3mil in their pocket, but fans see that and think oh man this guy must be a boss. Girls and gold digers start showing up to the shows and the rest is history.

I have NO beef with Rocky. His mixtape was GREAT. But let's not act like he doesn't have "the machine" behind him like Kendrick and Cole do too. The difference is that Kendrick and Cole have managed to sell well and grow in popularity while Rocky has largely been stagnant, isn't selling records, can't top his debut mixtape, etc. Those are facts.

Kendrick is trash and only talked about due to his planter's presence.
He has a variation of projects that are supposed to be great, yet none of them are cherished by the general public. Just big press promotion, padded ratings, slots on festivals.
Any moment of time around kendrick's so called good projects, none of those projects are dominating any atmosphere you can think of.
No one's bumping the records
He's not running the clubs
Not running the radio
His viewership on youtube is low, considering how many records he's sold vs others with similar numbers of records sold.
And to date he still hasnt headlined a big tour like other rappers with similar current record sales.
Makes me question his sales

I swear only in Hip Hop do dudes argue about silly shyt like this.

if you think this is silly shyt, then you don't have a hip-hop bone in your body.

maybe EDM is the music for you.

that's how just about everybody starts off.

the real question is, did he get anywhere from that? or did his rise come from him being astro-turfed?

BE SMART SON.

I actually enjoy some electronic dance music, so your insult falls flat breh

You are so out of touch and gleefully ignorant it's hysterical.

:mjlol: "He's not running the clubs" Holy fukk, you actually said that.

Goddamn, you Kendrick haters are so pathetic with that shyt. It's not even worth addressing anymore.

:umad:

Rocky put out a mixtape no one cared about (Deep Purple),

mixtape? :what: Wasn't this an EP? shyt had 6 songs.

and you can't say no one cared about Deep Purple because Purple Swag was on it, which went viral.

That's why you have Purple Swag Chap 2 (as in, the sequel) on Live.Love.ASAP

If we're gonna debate this shyt, at least minimize your errors.

then dropped a huge mixtape that was IMMEDIATELY all over the blogs, local radio, twitter, etc. Within a few weeks the rumors of him signing a "1mil+" deal started circulating, which gave him more clout. That's how you know he was a plant and already signed. It's basic music label shyt brehs, I'm not even hating.

again, deliberately mis-using the word 'plant' to describe basic music label shyt, which you say in your very next sentence is 'basic music label shyt'.

Rocky has nowhere near the machine Kendrick and Cole have, and let's pretend like Rocky aint selling shyt anymore.

speaking of facts:

King Koonta is the definition of manufactured hype. Show me a video with Jay-Z/Puffy etc coming out to support ASAP Rocky before Purple Swag and LiveLoveASAP. Then I'll shut the fukk up.

Otherwise, I don't wanna hear the words "Rocky a plant" coming out the mouths of a Kendrick stan ever.

still waiting for that video
