i actually got into the discussion of that line pretty late. i can't speak for other people. i never said it was a great line or a great song either. i said it in one of my earlier posts but my main criticism of Kendrick (and more specifically TPAB) is that while he has "clever" moments and while you could argue the album is intricately constructed, it just feels like it's clever just for the sake of being clever. it's like he's using the themes as an excuse to display cleverness instead of using cleverness to explore themes and at the end it leaves me a little cold cause it doesn't evoke emotion in me. it's almost like intellectual masturbation.Then why didn't y'all say it until I said it? The first cat said something completely different about it. In fact, none of y'all have said anything clear and consistent about what that particular line means other than "it's something about race". Look at the million tangents DontKnock went on.
