So my boy mentioned to me how I don't keep my 808s in note with my main synth. And then I started researching.... And now it's simply blowing my mind lol.

I've been musically frustrated ever since this, trying to research and figure it out.

Anyone have a simple way of explaining this?

Everything should be in the same KEY(scale)

the key will determine what chords and notes to use in your song.

Anything outside that key just won't sound right (typically).

for example, if you are creating a song in the key of Em
you will use the Em Scale which include

E, F#, G, A, B,C and D.

So you can use any of those chords or notes in your song and they will maintain the proper tonality for the song.

you can make some (poly) synth or piano chords using any of those chords, as well as using the individual(mono) synth or baseline nots to fit that in

playing any notes outside that key will probably sound off.

there is way more to it, this is just the basics that you should know, learn, for making music though.
