Y1, embarrassing blown 3-1 lead in the Semis. Have to watch as Lakers you hate so much, who you brought these guys in to compete directly against, win it all...
Y2, stumble in playoffs and make run to franchise first ever WCF only to watch your best player be unavailable in the biggest moments...
Y3, said best player misses all year, second best player misses 51 games, fail to even make the postseason with two games to advance...
Three years into it, have yet to cut into the Lakers relevancy that Ballmer oh so covets and spent for. Three years into it Lakers are a complete catastrophe and somehow have still won a championship while you've had this going...
Next year is Y4. They have to at least make the WCF. It doesn't matter who the competition is, the bar is high. If they can't at least get back to their high point, tear this whole shyt down. Doesn't matter who gets hurt. Next year at playoff time PG will be 33 and Kawhi will be almost 32. If those guys can't bring it home next year you may have to destroy and rebuild, get the old guys outta there...
And I love Ty Lue, he's an excellent coach, but Next year would be three years of this for him too. It took him half a year to win a title with Bron, made The Finals three straight years coaching Bron. These nikkas aren't LeBron and as unfair as it may be he's learning that the hard way and not having LeBron may cost him his job, it's a cloud that will follow the remainder of his career until he can validate his winning without him...
It followed Spoelstra for 6 years until he ran off a Finals run without LeBron...
Ty Lue has optimized this team as best he can and proved himself as an elite coach, I truly believe that. But it's the NBA, you don't wanna be the guy who optimizes subpar talent but can't win it big with superstars. 3 years of Lue + Kawhi and PG next year. If you can't even make The Finals in 3 years with them, let alone win it all, when can you? Those guys aren't getting younger and unfortunately the coach is gonna be part of the blame if it goes bad...
