I don’t disagree but I just don’t think she would lose. Ro Khanna is thinking of running as well and basically said if Barbara runs he will fall back and back her. It looks like she’s quietly consolidating the progressive vote behind the scenes. It would be interesting to see how it plays out. Ro straight up said there should be a black woman in the Senate according to reports.

The percentage of the population in California that's black is relatively low (just 5.7% according to the 2020 census), so I don't think that will move many of the voters.

I like Lee. She was especially heroic and princpled in the wake of 9/11. But she is too old.

look, B Lee been my rep, love her, but what we don't need is her running for senate at 77. record be damned, she old AF and needs to get the same "it's time for younger people to lead" treatment

edit: if she and katie run for the seat, guess i'll be a c00n in that primary :ld:
Imagine going to tell the sorors at brunch you voting for the white girl over auntie :scusthov: :troll:

You’re confusing the black population overall with the Democratic electorate where we are always over represented. I don’t think that her race in and of itself will move the needle regardless but I’m saying if the progressive money machine decides that’s where it should go and she gets the veteran nod then it would be hard to beat her. It’s not like she’s running against someone else with a strong ethnic identity. And this is the same California that kept electing old as Dianne Feinstein. In an ideal world, Lee would endorse a younger senator but you know these old people.

I wouldn’t rule out Adam running too but he’s probably in a better spot in the house.

More Democratic-leaning states with high Black populations should have Black women senators. So states like Maryland, Delaware and Virginia. Instead all of the Senators from those states are old/older White men.

Lisa Blunt Rochester technically can count as Delaware's 3rd senator since she represents the entire state - but she's a House member.

They should but you know how Democrats are. They are all about identity until one of their own wants the spot. I’m forgetting the name of the sister who ran in Maryland around 2018. I would hope Barbara would fall back here but when have old people done that recently?
